Dick Welsh just sent in this 1941 shot of his sister Janet with Bette Maxwell: Click here
You'll find it in Bette's Family Album on the Tot To Teens PageThere's a similar one on Dee Cunningham's Tot To Teenage Page of Dee and Marorie Burick making jelly 'about 1940' at Mrs. McLeod's house (Ian's mother). Click here Mrs. McLeod was a professional photographer who used local kids as models for ads. Amazing that two such shots should show up from separate sources.
I am putting a new page on the Webmaster Corner to which you can write to let others know that you have added new materials. It is a simple 'select' form (Since Graduation, Comments, Guest Book) with no text to write. Only if you are recording the signing of a guest book do you have to say whose.
Several new additions. Dee Cunningham found an Iroquois High School Alumni Web Site and one for the Class of 1966 of Strong Vincent High. Both are now online accessible from our Class Links, Classmates page. The Iroquois site is primarily a list of email addresses of their classmates set forth by class. The Strong Vincent site has pictures of some 1966 classmates, faculty and the like.
That led me to a site for Weslyville, PA. That site has been added to the Class Links, Erie Sites page.
After Phil Nason's experience losing 4 1/2 hours work writing his After Graduation Page, most, including Phil, write that page by bits and pieces, submitting new text in installments. If you are doing so, please note that after submitting new material, the old text remains when you return to the form page. Clear the form before continuing so that you are starting with fresh material.
I'm sure I've forgotten several items but this is it for now.
Gus
I have been in touch with the two gals who are webmasters for the St. Vincent High School Class of 1966 site. At the urging of Pat, I have taken the liberty of sticking a cautious toe in the waters of an organization known as the High School Reunion Web Ring and registered with them. Their one requirement is that they be linked through our main page with their rather garish animated logo with additional links to the other classmate sites.
I have met that requirement rather marginally by putting their links and logo on a separate page. You will now find "TO HIGH SCHOOL REUNION WEB RING" at the bottom of the main page. Click on it to bring up their logo and links. The links take you to other classmate sites while clicking on the logo brings up their home page, ads and all.
Take a look then give me your thoughts. Do we want to be on this thing?
THE 4TH OF JULY SLIDE SHOW
A slide show is supposed to be a hands off display of a series of shots that automatically moves from one frame to another until the last photo is shown. HTML provides a means to set the length of time each picture is shown.
The Problem
Nothing on your screen is read directly from disk. It is first loaded into memory. I'm sure you've noticed it when accessing new materials. It can be painful waiting for a picture to unfold on your screen. The 4th of July pictures take from 15 to 30 seconds each to load. Once in memory, however, they remain there so that future access is almost instantaneous.
In this case, timing has been set to 20 seconds for each shot. On original access, if a photo takes 30 seconds to load into memory, the show moves on before that shot has loaded and shown in its entirety. When you view the show again after it is in memory, the picture will display immediately and you will have to wait the full 20 seconds before the next shot comes up. That is tedious since one rarely wishes to look at any given parade photo for more than ten seconds. Thus, 20 seconds may be too short a time for memory loading and too long for comfortable viewing thereafter.
The Solution
Even though it ruins the 'hands off' feature of the slide show, the viewer should have a means to over-ride the 20 second timer, i.e., go back to shots that did not fully load and move on when tired of waiting for the next picture.
The 4th of July Parade has been enhanced to do just that. On the lower left is a box reading 'Prev Page.' If the photo moved on before fully loading, click on it to go back. On the lower right is a box reading 'Next Page.' If you are ready to move along before viewing a shot for twenty seconds, click on it.
Hopefully, this feature has made watching the slide show more suitable to your tastes. Purists can leave their hands in their laps and take things as they happen.
This evening, Dr. Pangloss resolved the HSRWR problem with a single stroke of the mouse in the manner befitting the Best of All Possible Worlds.
Gone from the bottom of our Main Page is the blurb with respect to HSRWR. To maintain a link to our site on their system, HSRWR merely requires that we maintin one to them, using, however, the html script fragment they supply us.
We now display them solely on the Class Links/Classmate Sites page using a single line, "High School Reunion Web RIng" as with all other links. When you click on the HSRWR link line, that now brings forth their required html script fragment with an additional line below for those who want the HSRWR Main Page. To the user, it appears as an introductory page on the HSRWR site and not as a part of Classmates of 1948.
Everybody should be happy in this Best Of All Possible Worlds.
One more quick access set of files added to the Class Files. Item one (1) will get you to the individual web pages much faster than going through the three pages of senior year postage stamp icons.
New addition to Class Links/Possibly Interesting. Check out Fred Reed's Fred on Everything. This week's Gelded Men and Sexless Women is a classic.
I just noticed that the folder for the 46th Reunion pops up with a triple whoopee. Guess I never did put it on line. In any event, it's there now Also, two new pics of Joyce Vouch, children and grandchildren on Steve's page.
Allene Benton, who was using her son's email address, now has her own machine and address, to wit: jimreedathaddon@gateway.net.
Please change your address books accordingly.

Dick Jell sent in a link to the East High School Tom-Tom site. That appears to be their alumni newspaper. Some interesting shots of the school being built in 1923 and the new building today along with comments of classmates. A neat bit is a tom-tom banner that follows your cursor wherever it goes. A link to the site has been added to our Classmates Links.
We just received a group of photos from Dick Dunn including an outstanding one of the tall ship Niagra which he shot during the 46th Reunion in 1994. It's on the Erie Page. Don't miss it. Another contribution is a group photo of the Ninth Grade Class of '48 which has been added to the Photos Page. Finally, there are a number of pictures of Culver days which are on the Tot To Teen Page of his family album. One of them was used to replace his THEN picuture as well. He'd complained that the old one showed that the lights were on but nobody home.
Phil Nason sent a group of pictures that sets a new record for number of photos submitted. Keep checking his albums. We'll be working on getting them all on line well into week after next. He'll also have the largest ego wall. Does one really get a commendation for receiving commnedations? If you haven't reviewed it yet, do read his Since Graduation Page which is now complete.
I have tailored my Photo Album to include an art gallery of the works hanging about the house. It's not yet complete but I add to it daily. There are separate pages for certain artists including one for Leonor Fini. It has links to other web sites featuring her works many of which are most interesting. If anyone of you want to have your Family or Photo Albums especially tailored, just let me know.n
We're at the point where the final design of this Webmaster's Corner must be resolved. The major purpose, of course, is to inform you of updates as they occur. There is also a Suggestion Box with no suggestions in it. What to do with the ever increasing length of the file? I am planning to establish log files. Every few months, we'll transfer the earlier entries to the end of the log files. Any other suggestions should be put in the Suggestion Box.
Dick Welsh and Dolores have gone to Arizona's high mountains (7000/8000 feet) until August 31st. Their temporary email address while there is:

07/11/2000The web site has been completed for some time now, the Weakly State of the site messages discontinued and the time come to step down from the podium and pass the baton on to new hands. After consultation with several of you, the brothers Jell were selected as worthy successors to the Webmaster post. They were of inestimable help during the site creation, are among its more frequent visitors and know their way into its deepest and darkest corners. Besides, we get two for the price of one.
I shall continue as their technical assistant to add pictures (thanks for your patience Phil - still working on them), fix glitches and perform brain surgery from time to time as required.
Please continue to send in your suggestions to give direction to their innovations. I have come to look upon the site as todays Mary's Dairy Bar where one drops in to see who's there and what's new. As always, it will be a pleasure to find the Jells behind the counter with aprons on, ready to help in any way.
Thanks for your past support.

07/22/20007-22-2000 I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to our super webmaster, Gus Danielson, on this his LPHS website. I also want to express my thanks for his letting us become part of his project by accepting us as his co-webmasters. My brother and I will try our utmost to carry on in his footsteps to mainain this project. If you will assist us by submitting, to us, news, events, etc. we will add the material, on a continuing basis, to the website. Only with your help can we hope to maintain and update this history of the LPHS Class of l948. We are hoping that all of you will continue to give us the support that you have given Gus in the past thereby giving him a much deserved rest and allowing him to get on with his corporate endeavor.

07/22/20007-22-2000, The first message to me from Brother Bob this morning was "I'm First to enter my message to our Webmaster Corner". That shows the rivalry still exists between us even at this late stage of the game. Gus has archived all previous entries up to July 11, 2000, when Bob & I accepted the roles of co=webmasters. The slate is now clean for us to show Gus what we can both accomplish from now on.The purpose of Webmaster Corner is to accept your updates, gossip, rumors & spcial features that you wish your Classmates to read as they happen. This is our "chat room" & we hope it becomesyour favorite place to go. The following icons now active on our Web Site are: "Since Graduation, Comments, Photo Index, Guestbooks, Class Files, Class Scenes, etc. Since Graduation entries have been entered Alice Cavanaugh, Bob & Dick Jell, Gus Danielson, Dee Hoke, Phil Nason, Don Bloom (our one mysterious Classmate) & last, but not least, to all our ten Deceased Classmates. Some of their Since Graduation entries have been updated. Dee Hoke was very helpful in updating Doris Miller's. The "Comment" page now has entries from Dick & Bob Jell, Peg Perry & Gus Danielson. The Photo index file located on our Class Links Icon will give you many short cuts to all the icons on our Web Page.
Phil Nason gets the prize for the most photos, as well as the longest "since Graduation" message. The Stylize Icon from your Web Page gives you four options. The most important are: write to Webmaster Corner, to your Since Graduation page & to your Comment Page. There are many openings left for those of our Web Family who haven't entered their's yet.
If I have missed something that should have been mentioned, let me know.
Bob & I hope to continue updating our Class Web Site to meet the high standards that Gus Danielson has set for our Class. We hope you will continue to support us as we go out to convince those Classmates, not now in our Web Family, to join us.
We'll be waiting for your responses to the Webmaster's Corner, Bob & I are to serve you, so let's see what we all can do.

07/26/2000Gus's latest updates are as follows: Art Anderson now has a NOW Picture on his personal Web Page along with two beautiful pictures of He & Pat, his wife. Marge Burick's new Pictures have also been entered, some of them with Bob Fleming of Wesleyville. 111 of 243 pictures submitted by Phil Nason have also been entered to his Family Album. Last, but not least, please go to Gus's EGO Page where he has entered 2 fine additions. One showing his Corporate Household Web Site Award & best of all a Autographed Picture of Eva Baskin's endorsement. I dare anyone to try to top this Award. Top Prize - Gus. I notice a lack of entries from any of our Classmates. Who will be the first to break the "ice" and try this site out. Remember, this is or "Chat Room" for letting Classmates read what's going on.

As you three well know I am one who likes to "chat", so I am very happy with the chat room idea. It will give our class many oportunities to become closer than we are now. It's been said before, Danny, but here it is one more time-"Thank you" for all the work you have done for all of us--we will never be able to repay you for all the pleasure you have given to us
.And thank you Bob and Dick for being our co-webmasters. You three make a great team!

07/31/2000MID SUMMER UPATE: Our Class Of 1948 Dinner at the LP Golf Club, July 29th, was well attended by 21 classmates. Would have been 25, but the Cable's & Noyer's had to cancel. Don Bloom drove in from Phoenix, for the first time to join us in the weekend celebrations. The LP Alumni Picnic, July 30th, had 500 Alumni show up, despite the threat of rain. Peg Perry & I invited James & Mary Alice Evans Brown to come. They arrived about 3:00 PM & were immediately surrounded by Alumni who remember her from High School Days & from her professional singing group here in Erie these past many years. This was their first Alumni Reunion & told us that they should have come sooner, as they had so much fun. I will invite them to next years
Alumni Renion at Shades Beach, July 29, 2001. For those who would like to say hello to Mary Alice her E-mail Address is "martinbrown@sprynet.com".
Bess Cable underwent emergency hip replacement, July 17th & hopes to be home by August 3rd.
Phil & Betty Nason stopped by July 9th & had dinner with us, Bob & Norma. They will return to Marietta, Georgia to rest up after their circuit of visiting friends in several states.
Betty Maxwell LaRose & Marilyn Steimer were Peg Perry's house guests while here for the Class Dinner & Alumni Picnic. The three of them had a ball, but not too much sleep. Betty drove up in her new Jaguar & had to leave early from the Alumni Picnic, returning to her home to prepare for her trip to Scotland this week. This, I think will make her third trip,
Dick & Dolores Welsh will end their summer vacation time August 3lst & go from e-mail: dbird13@cybertrails.com TO: dwelsh@gateway,net.
Four Classmates joined our Web Family: Jean Shepard, Carrie Lee Gregory, Beverly Hetrick & Art Anderson. Their e-mail addresses are now on our Class Website.
For those who haven't pulled up Gus's Ego Page to view his latest Eva Baskin Endorsement, should do so. I don't think any of us can top this.
Bob & Norma Jell will soon be returning to Fort Myers, early August, after spending three months vacationing in Erie. I tried to convince them to return to Erie, but they have been Floridians too long & wouldn't be able to stand our Winter Season any more. That's what Sr. Citizen Status does to some.
Finally, Don & Betty Baron are now residents of Leesburg, Florida. Their new address is shown on our Website. PS: Mark your calendars for Our next LP Alumni Picnic, Sunday, July 29, 2001, preceeded by Our Annual Class Dinner July 28th. New location for this night is being considered.

08/03/2000The monthly LP Alumni noon Luncheon, held today at the Moose Club, was a big success with 75 Alumni attending. Chef Dan performed his usual cooking magic by serving up a delicious buffet. Red Conley, MC, Class of 1950 called for a round of applause for the Chef & the Club waitresses for treating us so well each month.
Our sign up sheet for next months luncheon is already filling up.
Pictures of our Classmates at the 2000 Alumni Banquet were taken & along with copies from The LP Alumni Picnic & will be mailed to Gus to include in our Event Page. We will be adding two new lines to the Event Page. One for the 2000 Alumni Banquet & one for next years 2001 LP Alumni Picnic scheduled July 29,2001 at the NEW Shades Beach Picnic Grove. Watch for announcements, on the Webmaster Corner, for changes as they appear. I have an envelope started with other pictures to be entered to various Class Web Sites, and you will also find those dates on the Webmaster Corner. Our Event Page is unique in that it gives a complete history, with pictures, of our Class & LP Alumni from our 10th High School Reunion to the present. Those Classmates who haven't pulled it up yet, don't realize how much enjoyment they are missing. Let's hope that will change.

08/04/2000DO NOT READ UNTIL SATURDAY, AUGUST 5, 2000
Received a nice e-mail from Dick & Dot Dunn today. They are enjoying our Web Site, especially the Webmaster Corner, I quote "I get a buzz out of your weekly news items!! Getting to sound a little like a Church Sponsored Series". End Quote. Strange that they should mention that, because I was asked by Peg Perry to deliver the Blessing at our Class Alumni Banquet, Saturday evening, July 29th, at the LP Golf Club. When I finished, Don Bloom leaned across our table & remarked that "I should have been a Minister". Our retired Ridgway, Pa, Methodist Minister, now living in Erie, says the same thing. Who knows what lurks there at this late stage of the game.
Bob, Norma, Betty & I, will give Don Bloom a royal sendoff noon tomorrow at Freeport Landing Restaurant, North East, Pa. Don plans to start back to Phoenix Tuesday morning, August 8th. He promises to take his time driving back & not do the trip in three days to get here. Don revealed to us that he had driven all the way from Louisiana in May, 1948, to see "His" Class graduate from LPHS. No one knew he was there at the time & he sat quietly in the back of the Auditorium. That tells you how much he cared for us, his Classmates of many high School years. His "since graduation page" is one for all of to pull up & read. Don attended many Family gatherings & picnics while here, so he will return home with plenty memories of his visit with all of us & his Family.

08/07/2000GAD ZOOTS - WATSON, who could that phantom instigator be that started an e-mail message to this site today with no name or e-mail address.
SHERLOCK HOLMES TO INVESTIGATE.
I am now the proud owner of a soft back addition of "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Surfing The Internet With Web TV", purchased through Barnes & Noble, here in Erie. This is Gus's recommendation for all of us using Web TV. It is supposed to give one a better understanding of how Web TV interacts with various programs offered through our Web Terminals, such as understanding & setting up html's, etc. I have just began to read this manual, but it looks like it has promise. That Sly Fox, Gus, has alterior motives though, with periodic comments to me that he will write a program that will allow me to Archive this page when my long winded messages fill the page & also a program to edit different sites on our Web Pages. It's reminds me of my former AF OJT (On The Job Training) that I left behind with my Discharge in December, 1954. Gus, I know will prove to be an excellent instructor, as we all know from past experience. I have the feeling the Virgin Island atmosphere has finally caught up with Gus & he is succumbing to that Island Magic. Let me tell you, this Webmaster job is really interesting. Betty sees me in front of my Terminal so much, that She says I'm beginning to become part of the furniture.
Well, until tomorrow or the next day, for my next "Words Of Wisdom".

Fellow Classmates; All good things must come to an end and after about 3 months of R&R in Erie, it's time to repack and head back to sunny, warm Florida. Can't tell you how much enjoyment Norma and I had attending numerous get togethers, Alumni picnic, North East High School Triennial Reunion (where we renewed old friendships with our other home town of 25 years), LP Alumni luncheons at the Moose Club and on and on ----- Unbelievable experiences of bringing back so many good memories of my youth. It was great to see former classmates and friends like Red Connolly, Carrie Lee Reinhart, Margie Smith, Jim Drake, Don Bloom (after 50 years), Tom Sanford, Peg Perry, Jean Loftus, Jean Coates, Dee Cunningham, Katie Conrad, Corky Sherrer, Phil Nason, Betty Maxwell, Chuck Barnes, Chuck Willett (Class of 1950) and so many other LPHS classmates too numerous to mention from previous classes. Great reacquaintences. Will be in Phoenix the latter part of September and will try to get in touch with Dick Welsh, Don Bloom, and an old friend from North East - Gordon Nixon. Well enough said -- it was a great vacation here in Erie with family and friends. It is my brother's and my hope that in these golden years more members of the class of 1948 will log on to the web site and let all of us know how and where they are, what they have been doing through pictures, comments to the webmaster corner, since graduation icon, etc. Sure was great to hear from Art Anderson with his input after all of these years. To all of you, the best of the best for the rest of the year 2000 and years to come. May God continue to bless you all.

08/10/2000Cheers to Carrie Lee, who is our third member of the Web Family to spread her wings & write to our "chat room" on the Webmaster Corner.
It's a beginning & I have high hopes the trend will continue. Betty & I gave Bob & Norma a hug last night, to wish them safe journey back to Fort Meyers. They will be happy to return home after three months vacation here in Erie. July wasn't the best of months for them, due to the unusual cool temps. & "lots of rain". Chuck Willett, Class of 1950, still haven't returned on line since he & Glo were up to the Alumni Picnic. After all Virginia isn't all that far from Erie. No word from the Baron's since their move to Leesburg, Florida. I did call Dottie Falzone this past Sunday & we had a nice talk. I'm trying to convince her to join our Web Family & she says she will consider it. I mailed her printed copies of Bud's personal Web Page, including his "Since Graduation Page" and ask her for an update. Also copies of Bud's Family & Photo Albums & most important a copy of our Class Main Page showing all the LP Tigers in all their glorious Tiger Color. That should stir some interest. Dot said she rented a cottage on the lake shore near North East & her entire Family arrived to have their own reunion. She said they had a blast. That was something she & Bud did each year when Bud was alive. Boy, did we share a bottle of wine or two together then. Good memories. Still waiting to hear from Alice Cavanaugh after their long vacation absence is over. Closing for now, but login for my next newsy comments.

08/10/2000ADDENDUM TO MY MORNING MESSAGE TODAY: A"Senior Moment"struck me after I submitted my morning message. Dottie Falzone will send Gus Photographs of Bud & Family to add to his Family & Photo Album pages. I'm sure that when she receives my mailed package of Bud's Web Pages, she will be more eager to send them. Also, I mailed an assortment of Photographs to Gus yesterday, with my request to choose which one's to use & where he thinks they would best be located on our Web Sites. We realize that when you asked Bob & I to be Co=Webmasters that you would settle into the background & give us your Technical Advice & help when needed. Well good buddy, that doesn't mean disappear completely from your contact with us, your fellow Classmates. How about an occasional Hello, How are you, on our Webmaster Corner? 08/12/2000Hi, Friends,
Here I am again, to try a new message and see if I can get it right. I am getting some pictures ready to send to Gus. Some are from the dinner we had on July 29th. I will let Gus decide which ones to use. Also I am sending some for my Web Page. My, how we change over the years. My granddaughter has started a Gregory Family Egroup on the net for all of us. It is really nice to be able to send one Email and have it go to everyone on the list for our family. I am going to fill in on my web page, all that I have done since graduation, as soon as I can think of it all. I was glad to get Don Baron's Florida address. It seems he has moved to about 10 miles from where our Mobile Home is situated. We spend about 5 months there in the winter. Guess I had better quit now and say good bye and best wishes to all of my classmates!!!! Carrie Lee

08/14/2000A very uneventful weekend this past one. Very quiet & relaxing. Two news items to bring to your attention. 1. Carrie Lee has submiited the second update to Vangie's "since graduation" page. Nice job Carrie Lee. 2. Bob & Norma, have arrived back in Fort Meyers, after four grueling days on those Intersate Highways. They love that heat & humidity of South Florida. Bob is back on line for all to say welcome home. I admonished him, while here in Erie these past three months, that he should become more visable as co=webmaster. Go get them, Bob.
THere are still many empty pages showing on our Class Website crying for those of our Web Family to complete their updates since graduating in 1948. Guestbooks could use more hello's to those you would like to be remember to & even your "Personal Comments" to that page would be welcome. Enough said.

I tried to coax Bob, co=webmaster, into providing some new blood into this hello to all our Web Family, but after waiting a short time, have decided to overcome my temporary "Writer's Block" & do the honors again. Guess you might call this a "Summer Doldrum" experience. One more major holiday,Labor Day, and then it's countdown to the year 2001. Sleeping Bags were spread out on the bedroom floor, related bags of changes of cloths, games, tooth brushes, shampoo, etc., filled in the empty spaces. Just before Sack Time, the question of snacks was mentioned. Stephanie @ 13, Scott @ 11 & Brad @ 8, decided a "meal" would be better than a snack. Pop Tarts, Pieces of Toast, Fruit bowls, glasses of Milk & Juice finally satisfied their hunger. Stephanie spoke for the Three of them by stating they came to "eat us out of house & home". Believe me she wasn't far from wrong. The most memorable picture was when each one drew lots to see who would be first to take a shower in our new Bathroom Shower. Stephanie was first, Scott second & Brad finished the parade. All in the order of age. Needless to say our hot water supply was exhausted by the time Brad was done. Each one appeared from their shower with their heads wrapped up in a turbin. Unfortunately, my camera was out of film. We finally settled down for the night, but at 12:15 AM this morning, our phone rang. I stumbled out to catch it on the third ring, only to hear a "CLICK" when I said hello. Stephanie & Brad will leave about noon today & go right to watching a baseball Game in Erie. Scott will return to his home at the same time. Mammy dream was to have them over for the nght before the new School Term started. Well we both enjoyed their sleep over & will try to relax after they leave. Megan @ 15, has passed that stage, so she took a rain check for when she can come out by her self. REALLY NICE TO REACH THIS GOLDEN AGE & BE HERE TO WATCH THEM GROW UP. AMEN.

08/23/2000My apologizies for the time lag between my last message to this Corner. Might it be my hope that some of you would fill in the gap? Well anyway, my Terminal became quite active with messages from former Employees & Friends of mine from Hammermill Paper, who have now retired or gone on to other lucrative fields still in the Paper Industry. If it wasn't for my being on the Internet, these contacts would have still been in my past. I promise not to let it interfere with my Webmaster responsibilities to our Class Site. Carrie Lee enjoying Gus's latest aditions to her Photo Albums. Gus says he did more damage to his place there in the VI preparing for Hurricane Debbie than what she presented. Bob & Norma nervously watching the track of Debbie & hoping it doesn't get to Fort Myers. Peggie P. packing for her vacation to Myrtle Beach beginning September 6th. Blanche Cunningham, now 95, was hospitalized this past weekend for a heart attack & now is wearing a pace maker. A really remarkable Lady. Well, time to leave for my monthly noon luncheon at the East Erie Turners where former Hammermill Sales, Marketing & Corporate Personnel meet to update what's happening in the Paper Industry. My greetings to one & all - Have a nice day.

09/13/2000Welcome back to our Webmaster Corner. This is my first entry today, following my 4th message to you all last evening, under my Temporary Substitute E-mail program. A small addition to my 4th E-mail message: Don & Betty Baron stopped to say hello, early Monday morning, on their way to Newfane, NY. They are going to sell Don's former residence there. Betty is trying to adjust to their new location in Leesburg, Florida. Her comment is "It's so hot & humid here, I will try it for awhile to see if I can adjust to Florida's tropical climate". A common comment from so many new residents to that Sunshine State. Watch for my next message on this site. As I said before, I welcome your participation in adding your own personal comments to this page. This will give it a lot more "Flavor" than my messages all the time. I would like to change that concept, if I can while co=webmaster. Watch this site for future entries.

09/14/2000Another fast moving update to pass on to you all. Gus advises that he NOW has all the write scripts in place for your personal entries to Comments, Since Graduation & Sign Guestbooks pages. If you haven't pulled up our Events Page & Erie Area Pages, to see the tremendous Photo additions, than you are missing so much. Our new Website location in Vancouver, should be a new beginning for all of us to build on what is already there on our LPHS Class of 1948 Website & bring it up to speed with your personal touch, by adding to your own Web pages. Let's make that LP TIGER ROAR.

09/14/2000Tonight I watched the July 4th Parade and looked at our beloved Elbow Tree in all it's splender! What a wonderful gift Gus has given to all of us! The years melted away as I took in all the pictures and was taken back to the wonderful times in "Old Lawrence Park". Thank you so much Gus, and thanks to everyone who sent the pictures that has brought back, and will continue to bring back such great memories. I hope all will look up our Class Web Site and enjoy. 09/16/2000And thank you Carrie Lee for the new pictures. A group of shots of Vangie, some old classmate pictures and some family shots. Vangie's have been added to her family album and Tot to Teens pages except for one which now appears on the Mary's Dairy Bar page. The others will be put on line tonight or tomorrow. Then comes the job of indexing all of the newer shots. Finally, I'll add the remaining Phil Nason Family Album shots which are on my desk.

09/17/2000I too add my thanks to Carrie Lee for her fine collection of Vangie's pictures that she sent Gus.
They are all on line & one has to see them to recall our earlier years with Vangie & how much she meant to all of us.
Peg Perry due to get home today after spending some R&R in Myrtle Beach this past week. We trust Hurricane Gordon won't be a bother for her to get back.
Phil & Betty Nason, now back home after a tour of Europe.Phil's thank you message arrived yesterday to all those 50 some people who sent him E-mails while they were gone.THey soon found out that those peope from across the "Pond" don't "Give a hoot about the Braves, Tiger Woods or Nebraska Huskers". For their entertainment in Germany, they watched a Cary Grant & Kathryn Hepburn movie in German.
Pictures of the 2000 LP Alumni Picnic July 29th & our Class Banquet at the LP Golf Club July 29th, are now part of the Event Icon on our Main Class Page. Gus did his usual excellent job of entering
& captioning them all.
Looks like we got "The Tiger to Roar"a couple of times with recent messages to our Webmaster Corner Page from Carrie Lee & Gus. Try it out, (like Micky says on that TV commercial) you might like it.

09/22/2000Hi Gang;
Here I am again looking to see who has made the
"TIGER ROAR". I expected to see some gossip or
at least a few lines from classmates, telling what
has been going on with each of you this summer.
I just received word that my grandson, Don E.
has gone to Nevada, with several friends. He got
his Electrical Engineer degree in May this year,
and is thinking of returning to college for his
second degree. However, I think this Nevada trip
is for fun. All the rest of the grandchildren
are doing great and the company we have had for the past two weeks have gone, so we can start on
our list of things to do before we leave October
28th for Florida. Hope you all have had a good
summer! My thanks to our "Favorite Three" for
keeping our Class Website the best in the nation.
Thanks, Gus, Dick, and Bob. God Bless, Carrie Lee

09/22/2000Hi everyone,
This is great. I just finished reading everything on the webmasters page. Try it, you'll like it! It's fun to find out whats happening with everyone in the class and their families. Basically, so far, this has been handled by our three webmasters, Gus, Dick and Bob, to whom I can't thank enough. Gus started by bringing the class back in contaact after 50 some years, and Dick and Bob proceeded to help by becoming co-webmasters. Now it's our turn to help them. So, come on you guys, check the webmasters page a couple times a week and join in the fun of leaving a message. It's almost like a chat room (which I Understand we will also have very soon)When we get that I probably will get no sleep at all--since you all know how I love to "chat".The webmasters page goes out to our entire class, so if you have anything you'd like everyone to know, just write there. It's much quicker. Come join the few of us who have written to the webmaster corner. We're waiting to hear from all of you.

09/22/2000Hi Everybody. Just finished reading the latest update from the Webmasters page and find it very interesting. Keep up the good work, Gus, Dick and Bob.
It has been awful hot out here in Phoenix, ever since I came back from the reunion. However, it is now down in the 90s and for all you folks that don't know out weather out here, that is very acceptable.
Looking forward to Bob and Norma arriving here soon. That's all for now, so hope this finds everyone well. Stay in touch

09/22/2000Congratulations to Carrie Lee, PeggieP & Don Bloom for setting a one day record of their messages to our Webmaster Corner. Out LP Tigers are up on all four paws each & Roaring so loud that our Main Web Page is vibrating on the screen. Listen closely, those members of our Web Family who haven't ventured into Tiger Country, they are roaring out for your participation. Remember those early days when we visited the Erie Zoo at Feeding Time. The Lions & Tigers would be in full chorus, roaring for their meat ration. That's what our Tigers are doing now, roaring for you to feed them on the Webmaster Corner. Don't wait too long,
or I, as Co=Webmaster might just turn them loose to seek you out.

09/25/2000Well, Gang,
Here I am again. Just wanted to let you all
know that I got to Mary"s Chat Room, but there was only a 30 year old male ready to chat!!! I think he stumbled in there, as he said he didn't
know any of the '48 L.P. Classmates. I must have
been there late. I don't go there early in the
morning, only when I have time and my "Chores" are
done. I was surprised to find a "youngin" at
Mary's. He was probably surprised to find an "oldie" there too. Well, it made my day for a
good laugh. Lets try getting together at "Mary's"
sometime okay?....My nickname is Carrie.

09/26/2000Glad that you found your way to the Dairy Bar Carrie and that you've taken up with younger gentlemen. While wandering about Talkcity (our chat host) trying to find a way to put an easy interface on for the Class, I requested Online Help. The rep asked if the 'marys' room was registered. I replied 'dunno but doubt it.'
That led to instructions to form a Club and make marys its chat room. Thus there is now a club by the name of LPHS. I appear to be its only member and so far no one has figured out how anyone else can join. It did, evidently, 'register' marys chat room which in turn publishes it somewhere on the Talk City site. Now, from time to time, some poor soul wanders in probably thinking Marys is a house of ill repute.
So far, Dick Jell, Carrie and myself are the only ones to have found the place except for the strays stopping to rest. Best bet is to drop me a line and arrange a tryst for a given time. I usually pop in and out for the Kaffe Klatch (7:00 - 8:30 a.m.) and Happy Hour (5:00 to 7:00 p.m.)
I have three machines so have three nicknames, to wit: gusdan, danvi and danvia. I sometimes login and talk to myself but Coach Yost warned us where that leads.

09/26/2000Yes Gus, Our "marys" chat room is getting a slow start. Hopefully, when all the bugs are worked out & Classmates become interested, this room will be fun to go to see who can get the most in, before being blocked by others waiting their turn. Peg Perry to try her luck soon.
Don Bloom e-mailed me to say He & Bob spent the day together in Phoenix while Norma attended her China Painting Seminar. He said it was "Quality Time Together" with two Classmates going back in time. Don did not mention getting together with Don Daggett while Bob is in town. Will wait for later update from Don Bloom.
Back to "marys" to see if anyone is in the room.

10/02/2000My brother, Dick, says that I am not active enough as co-webmaster so I will take this time to give you a short tale of our visit to Arizona. Norma and I departed for Phoenix Sept. 22 for 8 days of R&R -- for me the R&R and for Norma 5 days as a student with 149 porcelain artists at their school at the Dobson Ranch in Mesa, AZ. She painted for 5 days a portrait on glass of a study taught by Barbara Bougher from Indiana. This beautiful portrait, now in a stained glass frame, will now occupy another space in Norma's accomplished art work.
Was fortunate to meet with Don Bloom who picked me up at 9:30 a.m. Monday and proceeded to drive to Cave Creek which is northeast of Phoenix. Cave Creek is a good example of what the early West was like. It's very western which brought a lot of good memories of my days with the Air Force in 1952 when I first became familiar with and loved the west. Don and I talked from the time he picked me up to the time he dropped me back at my hotel. These conversations really brought back memories of Lawrence Park High School with the close associations we all had with our classmates as well as past and future classmates. Don was able to bring me up to date on friends of my youth that I had lost touch with or had not seen since graduation. In particular -- John Paul Jones, Sparky Waldo, and other good buddies. We had a teriffic lunch at Cave Creek at a very friendly and rustic restaurant (with sawdust on the floor common in the old West). After lunch, Don drove to his beautiful coach park and his spacious coach home. The park is one of the best I have had the opportunity to visit -- no grass for landscaping -- truly western with gravel, etc. to cut maintenance and conserve water. Don introduced me to his cat, Sam, who is a true companion. Don's tastes in interior decoration are superb with his many trophies for trap shooting (which he enjoys with a passion) and his collection of Indian pottery, etc. acquired throughout the years. Made me very envious as I dearly love Indian jewelry and their pottery. Finally, it was time to end this most rewarding visit with my old classmate and buddy. Much too soon for the memories it brought back. Unfortunately, not able to get in touch with Don Daggett who resides in Flagstaff - about 150 miles from Phoenix.
Whoever said that with the low humidity in Arizona with temperatures in the triple digits are bearable is full of beans -- hot is hot! When we departed for Ft. Myers on Friday, Sept. 29 the temperature was 104 -- the next three or four days would be 103, 102, and 101 projected. Then it was going to drop to the cooler 90"s. Big Deal! Final conclusion -- I'm too old to undergo that country like I did when I was 22. Florida is our style now but we still like to visit out there.

10/23/2000Can't believe it has been seven days since my last entry to our Webmaster Corner. Thankfully there have been Classmate messages to fill in that time period. Always enjoy seeing new messages appear & hope that this continues. North East residents are enjoying a beautiful extended Indian Summer Season this year. If it would continue like this for the Winter Months ( wishful thinking), then our local Snow Birds wouldn't have to head south. The Canadian Geese have decided to Winter in Erie & we can't get rid of them. They are fast becoming like locusts, a plague like situation for not only Erie, but for many surrounding towns. A rare Wood Stork is "vacationing" on the Peninsula now. Word went out on the Internet & Bird Watcher's are flocking in to scope & photograph it in our Lagoons as it eats. The same happened to the annual run of Steel Head Trout that arrived at Walnut Creek on their annual migration to home waters. The Internet also carried this little bit of breaking news & Erie was again swamped with fishermen from all over this part of our world trying to catch those 10 to 12 pound beauties as they swam upstream in about 4-5 inches of water. Many were tempted to grab one, without the benefit of a line & hook, but the Fish & Game Commission were there to observe & control. For those Classmates who remember old North East, the Concord Hotel has been reduced to rubble to make room for our new U.S.Post Office. Heard Memorial School is being demolished to make way for a new Park for all types of local activities, including our annual Fireman's Festival. All for now - more later.

Come talk with Gus, Bob and Dick Jell,Don Bloom.Alice, Carrie Lee, Peggie and anyone else who logs in. 11/02/2000Time to restart my engine & catch up on what's happening sincemy last message to thisCorner, October 23rd. It's gratifying to see the messages that several Classmates have entered to this Corner in just the past week or so. We might just reach that goal of this space to pass on those rumors, news happenings in your neck of the woods & other pieces of info you think we would enjoy. I'm sorry that Peg Perry's fine invitation for you Classmates to join the five of us in our Class Chat Room has apparently been ignored. My request to those who haven't joined or group, is "try it you might like it". Our Winter Season is fast approaching for us who live in the Northern part of this country. Many of you have chosen the warmer locations to live full time & others travel South to enjoy their Winter stay. More power to you all. You can rub it in when we are having those "Lake Effect" snow storms that were part of our lives when in Lawrence Park High Schools. Snow was enjoyable to us in those impressionable years, but as time passes this yearly event loses its appeal.
Turkey Day is just around the corner & Betty & I wish all of you Blessings for what we have & for what we hope to achieve in the years remaining. May your Turkey be delcious & your happiness continue with Family, Friends, Strangers you might meet that change your lives & for God's Blessings to those who have experienced life's sorrow & return to good health from those Senior Citizen problems that we all face as the years slide by.

11/08/2000Hi Folks. Just getting caught up with the Webmasters corner and really enjoy the comments.Weather here in Az isn't too much to brag about at this time. Have had a lot of rain and cool weather, but the sun is now out and warmer days are ahead of us. Am looking forward to meeting Dick Dunn at the airport this Saturday. He is going to be in town for a convention and will be spending some time with him. It has only been 52 years, so about time to get caught up and solve all the world problems.
How about the Election folks? Pretty confusing. Hope you all voted for the right man !!!!
That's it for now, so you all keep the good messages coming and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

11/09/2000Hi to all you guys and gals!!
Please note the change in my e-mail address. This
will be the one we will have while here in Florida. We spent almost 2 weeks with our family
in North Carolina, enjoying the grand children and
one great granddaughter that lives there. Now we are enjoying the 80 plus degree weather. Haven't
started any new projects yet, as getting this
computer set up and running was a "first priority"
I hope to get some chatting time soon at "MDB".
Thanks to Dick and Betty for their Holiday Receipt
which I hope to try soon. I am glad to say that I
voted in Ohio with an absentee ballot, so we are
not involved in the "Florida Delay" voting process
This will be one for the History Books. Just think
our great grand children will be learning about
this in school, and it may change the course of
our voting process in years to come. Something to
think about!!! Hope you all have a wonderful
Thanksgiving Holiday and count your many blessings

11/10/2000A little known constitutional amendment was part of the Volstead Act according to a learned fellow attorney. When prohibition was repealed, this part of the act remained in the constitution. It provides for the rare occurance of presidential race ties.
Accordingly, Pat and Ralph will flip a coin to see which becomes president and which vice president.
Gore and Bush are disqualified by tie.
Virgin Islanders have no vote in national elections so I get even less blame than Carrie Lee.
Please note my new email address. Unless you've changed yours lately, you're just not up with the Jones.

11/11/2000Happy Veteran's Day to those of us who have served in the various Branch's of the Military & to all other's, the greeting is still the same. It feels so good to sit back & read the messages from other Classmates that appear to our Webmaster Corner. Their messages continue to give depth to that Site. That doesn't mean that I will shirk my participation as Classmate & Co=Webmaster, in not adding my two cents any time I feel the Corner needs a wake up call. I believe I can handle that.
The Christmas Shopping Experience is once again with us. My sole responsibility is to drive Betty up to the Mall, drop her off & return at the appointed hour to retrieve my better half. Betty always said she wouldn't try to tackle the masses of shoppers that swarm in from all over Ohio. NY, nearby Pa. & Canada. She seems to forgive that impression & has to have it restored each year. More power to her.
I marvel at the stamina & enthusiasm that our Classmate's messages reveal as they send their E-mails to each of us & include their news, gossip & rumors to our Webmaster Corner. Who would have thought that after 52 years from graduation, so many of us have managed to retain that High School Spirit & thrive as the years pass all to quickly.
My fond hope is that we all continue with that Spirit for years to come. Happy Thanksgiving & God's Blessings be with you all.

11/18/2000Time For The Co=Webmasters Periodic Message.
It seems that our High School Web Site has gone into a state of hibernation. Our Class chat room is always empty despite Bob & My attempts to draw some one in to chat. Not too long ago, it was one of our most active sites. Probably due to those who chatted are now in warmer Climes for the Winter or too busy preparing for the upcoming Holiday Season. Our Webmaster Corner needs more activity. There are many "Since Graduation" to be added plus your "Comment" & "Write to Classmate's Guest Books" pages to be filled. Gus recently archived all previous Webmaster Corner messages up to the end of October, 2000. He started fresh with the current month of November, making it easier to read the most recent entries. As far as those of our Web Family who enjoy reading what others are doing, but not participating in the progress of our Class Web Site, nothing seems to entice you into becoming more active by adding your own personal touch.
Where do we go from here? The Million Dollar Question. Unless We of the Class Family change our concept of a High School Web Site on our own, then Gus's efforts have been in vain. Two plus years of long tedious hours creating & developing this site will be ignored & in vain. I personally don't believe you all want that to happen, otherwise you wouldn't have bothered to enter your names to our Family, plus include many personal Family Photos to your own Personal Album's & those Album's of your closest Friends. It all boils down to this, The decision is completely up to you as to the outcome & Future of our LPHS Class Of 1948 Site.

11/26/2000I second Carrie Lee's welcome to our long lost Classmate, John - Jack Warthman. I remember him from High School Days as Jack. Now that we have him in our Web Family, I hope that he will be able to present us with his Bio to his "Since Graduation" Page & also have him enter his "Comments" to his Comment Page. Since he is a Junior member of our Family, it will require some time to acquaint himself with the calibre, quantity & quality found in our LPHS Class Of 1948 Web Site. His Personal Web Page has items already part of earlier life & will be an excellent opportunity for him to Complete all the remaining pages left to be filled. Have been watching the weather in the Erie area and makes me feel good to live here in Az. Peggie Perry was visiting here for a couple of weeks and didn't really look forward to returning to Erie. 12/08/2000As you may have noticed, there's a whole slew of new things here starting with the Christmas decorations. Didn't know the Jells could skate so well but they sure look good in red.
Lunch with the Warthman's yielded a few photos which will be on their Photo Album travel page soon. Some new shots on Don Bloom's page (he sent them email) featuring Dick Dunn, Peggy Perry and Don Daggett. Dick Welsh also emailed a couple which have been added to his family album. Keep up the emailing of pictures -- makes getting them on line a snap.
Received a note from David Knapp in response to my request for pictures. He's sending some of his recent travels including St. Petersburg. Dick Jell sent a shot of Harriet Marzka which we'll have on her Family Album soon. And, we continue working on the Phil Nason Collection.
The BIG NEWS is our coming of age with our own domain. It's been a year since this began with the Jells looking over my shoulder and making comments. Having reached the age of consent, it's
"Thanks danvi.vi but we're now www.irqpa.org and ready to consent to almost anything." The site is a three tiered one, i.e., irqpa is the Iroquois School District Alumni in its entirety; lphs is the sub url for Lawrence Park Alumni(irq and whs are also there) and 1948 is our Class of 1948. Hence, we are www.irqpa.org/lphs/1948.
Bill McCall in Columbus, Ohio has an Iroquois site with email addresses for their alumni from 1966 through 2000 and even has two addresses for their Class of 2001. We are piggy backing on them with access to those addresses. Go to http://www.irqpa.org/irq/index.html to get to them.
Word is out that Jim Drake has acquired a webtv and will be with us soon. A 55th Reunion seems to be in the making. Email Dick Jell and Dee Cunningham Taylor-Hoke to offer time.

12/12/2000Dave & Mildrid Knapp recently returned from a World Trip which took them & their Grandson to eleven different Countries. Due to Gus's urgings, Dave has submitted a travel log of all the Countries they visited. Gus, after spending many hair pulling hours trying to enter these photos to Dave's Personal Photo Album, has had success. Apparently our Server in Vancouver wasn't willing to accept Gus's commands. Resolution has been achieved & these complete sets of Photos are now part of Dave Knapp's Photo Album. I highly recommend your logging into this site to see the magnificent, excellently taken Photo's now on line. They will take your breath away. Gus still has to add items to Phil's Ego Wall plus index the new photos, to complete this historical event. I viewed Phil's Album's and have come to the conclusion that Phil & Betty have now transferred their Family Photo History to our Class Web Site, for all to enjoy.
Take your time when viewing these photo's & enlarge those you enjoy the most, to get full benefit of what the photo shows. This collection is by far the largest of any to this date. Could this be competition for other Classmates to try to better what Phil & Betty have accomplished. Tme will tell.

Thursday, December 21, 2000 at 1:71 a.m. Eastern Time2000--the year of progress for the class of 1948. We have moved forward once again. There is no other class in the history of Lawrence Park High School that has a web page as complete and informative as ours. Thanks to our webmaster, Gus Danielson and our co-webmasters, Dick Jell and Bob Jell. The members of our class who have viewed the class website are full of thanks and praise for Gus, and the amount of time and effort he has put in this entire website, and for Dick and Bob Jell for following up where Gus has left off. I speak for every one of us when I say "Thank You" for keeping us in touch with one another and helping us renew high school friendships that had been almost forgotten in the past 52 years.

Friday, December 22, 2000 at 0:98 a.m. Eastern TimeGreetings to one & all from Santa Land, North East, Pa. Betty & I woke up this morning to 10 degrees, wind chill -21 & a high of 15 expected, with below freezing temperatures for the next 7 days. Santa is there, poised at the North Pole, preparing his Reindeer for their annual flight around the World delivering presents to all who have been good. Those bad ones will be missed this year. Santa has been feeding his Reindeer a mixture of straw, oats & Anti-Freeze to ward off those freezing temperatures at the North Pole.
Our Class Web Site has experienced phenomenal growth this year with a growing roster of Classmates to our Web Family. Some of you have contibuted greatly to its enhancement by including photos to your Family & Photo Albums. Gus' latest count is over 1000 photos now there to view. There are very interesting "Since Graduation" messages & "Comments" now a part of many of those Classmate Web Pages, who want you all to know what they have accomplished since our Graduation some 52 years ago. Time does fly. Many Classmate Albums & message pages remain empty, waiting to be updated so we all may view their life accomplishments. Classmate Guestbooks are filling up with personal messages from those who take the time to wish those who are no longer with us, plus those who have yet to join our Web Family. Very interesting reading where High School Memories are often the text of these messages. Event Icons take you to HS reunion dates, Alumni Activities, etc. Erie Site Icon takes you to special local historical sites, icluding a beautiful page on the LP Elbow tree. Last, but not least, who can forget "Marys Dairy Bar" where many pictures of us in our younger days can be seen with various friends. Mary's Dairy Bar is the title for our Chat Room, where many us gather each night at 7 PM EDT to fill the internet with gossip, jokes and whatever comes to mind. Could use some more chatters, if you're interested. It may be entered from the Webmaster Corner Page. Gus's inquisitive mind keeps us on our toes waiting to see his latest innovation to our Web site. I think you all agree that his art work to our Main Page over Thanksgiving & Christmas proves his exceptional abilities to constantly bring change to our Site. His present project of having day, date & EDT become a part of our Messages to the Webmaster Corner seems to be bearing fruit. Some minor adjustments are being made right now & can be viewed each time you log into this site to read Gus's latest comments on his progress. Each time I log into our Web Site & decide which area I will view, I find new material has been added. My parting message to you of our Web Family is, we now have a living version of the updated 1948 LP Yearbook "LAURENTIAN", now a part of our lives, with no limit to what we may achieve in the years to come.
Be very thankful for what Gus has designed & created for the 55 members of LPHS Class of 1948, 10 of whom are no longer with us, but will remain in our memories for the rest of our lives. They were made a part of our Web Site with their own individual Web Pages. I have yet to find a High School Class Website to compare what we now have. Bob & I can only hope to live up to expectations for the future of our Web site. We will certainly do our best for Gus & our Web Family. May your Holidays be bright & The New Year be kind to one & all.

Friday, December 22, 2000 at 10:54 a.m. Eastern TimeMy Christmas message to all our viewing classmates and friends.
Try as I might, I cannot hope to surpass my twin brother in his annual "state of the union message" -- so, I will just say "DITTO" to all his comments and close with a wish that one and all have a very merry Christmas and many Happy New Years to come.
As a matter of information we, too, here in Florida are experiencing a stranger weather pattern than we have seen since we moved here 16 years ago. The continual cold fronts moving this far south left us with a new low of 35 degrees yesterday morning and high in the upper 60's. Not to our liking as we have been accustomed to warm winters, but I guess we will live with it until it decides to warm up. This trend is supposed to continue through all of next week -- what a bummer for the tourists flocking to Sunny Florida. Ha Ha
Wish all of you the best for 2001. Will be looking for all of you to attend the LPHS Alumni Picnic at the new modern site in July.

Monday, January 1, 201 at 5:27 p.m. Eastern TimeA New Year's Message on January 1, 2001 ---
To my fellow classmates. The year 2000 was a good one for the LPHS Class of 1948 Web Site. The contributions by classmates to the site were invaluable indicating how we have, both pictorially and auto-biographically, related our progression through life since graduation.
The Chat Room, Mary's Dairy Bar, established by the Wizard (Gus Danielson) has enabled Carrie Lee Rhinehart Gregory, Peg Runzo Perry, Bob and Dick Jell, Mardy Wilson Oleski, Don Bloom, Gus Danielson, plus a few hackers who strayed into the room, to instantly communicate with old classmates, many we have not had the chance to see in years. The three of us as the Webmaster/Designer and co-webmasters can only hope that the progress we made in the year 2000 will continue to expand in the future to include Jack Warthman, Dick Welsh, Katy Conrad Fuller, Art Anderson, Alice Rushton Cavanaugh and the remaining classmates joining in and conversing with the rest of us. They now have the capability to log into the Web Site if they so desire. The daily conversations between all of us have been very enlightening, interesting and full of humor as we remember old and new experiences to pass on to each other. It is more efficient than the US Postal Service and less costly than long distance calls.
Now that we have entered into the year 2001, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to one and all for a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year. With the Good Lord's continued blessings on those remaining, we hope to be able to continue into the future together as friends, buddies and classmates.

Also talked to Joyce Phillips Noyer, this morning & discovered that David, her Husband, was admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital for Congestive Heart Failure, last Wednesday. Joyce & Dave had been visiting in Philadelphia for the Holidays, and when they returned to Erie Dave developed difficulty in breathing. He recently under went Angioplasty with Stents, to remove blockages to his Coronary Arteries. This also was done at St.Vincent's. Fluid from his left lung was removed & he is now being treated for Kidney Funtion impairment. Catherization was performed to check condition of the recent Stent placements & they are all fine. Dave's Kidney Function is not up to par due his being Diabetic. Hopefully, his Doctor's will release him soon. Dave has been through a lot of Physical ailments since last April, 2000.
Speaking for our Web Family, I sent both all our best wishes for speedy recovery & a brighter New Year 2001.

Friday, January 5, 2001 at 6:16 p.m. Eastern TimeHi again to the Class of 48
Have just updated myself with the Webmasters Corner and find the news very interesting. Sorry to hear that the weather in Florida hasn't been up to expectations. You all need to change your address to Arizona. We have been enjoying the mid 70s since the first of the year and enjoyed watching the weather reports from around the country. Really feel sorry for you folks in Erie and hope you see the end of the cold weather.
Once again would like to thank Gus, Dick and Bob for all the work that they have done for the Class of 48. Have spent many happy hours reading about what has been going on, with the class, since graduation. Suggest everyone should drop into the chat room and enjoy the experience of talking to everybody and keeping up to date. Hope everyone is having a Happy and Healthy New Year

Saturday, January 6, 2001 at 10:44 p.m. Eastern TimeHi Everyone;
Just thought I would add a message here to say
a big "Thank You" to Dick for keeping us all up to date with the classmates who are not on the
Internet. He was good enough to send best wishes to Kathleen Conrad after her hospital stay, from
all of us. I would never have known about Joyce and her husband Dave, if it were not for Dick and
his message to our Webmaster Corner. There again
he sent our wishes for a speedy recovery to Dave.
All of the Class who are on the net, I ask you
to come to our chat room some evening at 7:00p.m.
We have a great time, talking and keeping in touch
We have two great Co-webmasters and one great guy
that has set up the best Website for our Class.
Gus continues to add to our Main Page with all the
decorations for each Holiday.
Come on Gang lets get together at MDB (our chat
room). I know you will enjoy the time spent in
finding out what other Classmates are doing and how they are getting along. If you can't go there
every evening, just try once in a while. The Co-
webmasters are usually there every time, and Gus is on from the Virgin Islands. We should be very
happy and proud of these "3 guys" that are doing
so much for us. I for one say Thank You!!!!

Sunday, January 7, 2001 at 0:05 a.m. Eastern TimeHi Everyone,
Here's a new message from an old friend. We have already begun working on the class dinner and the alumni picnic for the year 2001. Hope as many of you as possible make it to good old Lawrence Park for our fun filled weekend-Isn't it great to see members of the class of 1948 at our annual function every year. For those of you who haven't joined us--you don't know what you're missing--it's like having a class re-union every year. Just ask anyone who attends! Our class is a very close knit group and lets keep it that way by all of us being together as often as possible. It's so relaxing to sit and talk to fellow classmates about what has happened in the past year or years. Try it you'll like it! See you in July.

Thursday, January 11, 2001 at 8:31 p.m. Eastern TimeJust received a pack of pics from Dave Knapp of their trip down under. Have them on the top priority list just after completion and stabilization of our own chat rooms.
Talkcity ads are bad enough (they do need to pay people) but a new one that appears as the system is loading crashes my browser. Our new chat rooms have no ads and are loaded with surprises. webcd even shows up from time to time and we have his picture.
We do have some talkcity adherents who are suspected of being paid shills. :-) Pay no attention to them. To Chat, click on Chat.

They freeze up and our webtv users are our most ardent chatters. Click on the Chat icon will now take you to talkcity as well as other chat rooms currently being reviewed. I'll be adding new considerations soon.

Monday, January 22, 2001 at 8:47 a.m. Eastern TimeThe webmaster Corner reveals, this morning, that my last message to you all was on January 5, 2001.
I have been remiss in having this length of time pass without a more current update.
There is so much activity in our Talk City Chat room, that Alice Cavanaugh, who was with us last night, asked when she could her turn. WWW.talkcity.com is our most active chat site, where any one new must register from their main page before chatting. Gus is working on several versions of our New Chat Room that can be viewed using the special Icon at the top left of our Class Main Web Site Page. Registration is also required to enter, with your name & personal password, which you select. Many unusual additions are on this site, including your personal Photo signature before each of your messages. Special convert images will appear when a "trick" word might appear in your message. These above images provide a very special uniqueness to this Chat Room.
News of other LPHS alumni: Art Bennett at abbb57@juno.com, is recovering from recent Angioplasty with placement of a stent in one of his Arteries. He will be scheduled soon for Colon Surgery. I'm sure he would appreciate an e-mail or two. Art Freeland, who I'm sure you all remember & a Cousin of Peg Perry, is in Hamot Medical Center for diagnostic testing, and can be rached at helfreeart@aol.com He too would appreciate hearing from you all. Our own LPHS alumni finds Joyce & Dave Noyer more comfortable with Dave's condition improving & they both expect to attend our February 6th LP Alumni luncheon at the Moose Club.
I have e-mailed several of our Classmates regarding staying in e-mail contact with us & to follow through with their promises to update their Personal Web Pages. Right now, our Web Site seems to be standing still, as far as updates to Web Pages. Hopefully, now that we're into 2001, this will change.
If I missed anything or anyone in this morning's entry, please let me know. I will include in my next entry to the Webmaster Corner.

Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at 0:78 a.m. Eastern TimeWe now have two new additions to our Class Web family, under e-mail others, on Find e-mail Icon. The Steimer Sisters, Marilyn & Jean, both on aol.com have applied for admission and have been granted membrship to our Web Family. This admission after careful screening by Co=Webmaster's, Dick & Bob Jell & Gus Danielson, Creator & Designer, agree they both meet the high standards of admission. Marilyn graduated in 1949 & Jean in 1953. Both young Ladies will add spice to our Class site & would appreciate a hello from those who remember them well from their High School days.
Additional news on Art Bennett's upcoming Surgery for Colon Cancer. Art is now scheduled to be aditted to the Hospital for Surgery, February 11th. Our best wishes & prayers will be with him during this procedure & following recovery.

Thursday, February 1, 2001 at 8:22 p.m. Eastern TimeIn addition to Photos of the eight European Countries now a part of Dave Knapps Photo Album, vacation & travel photos section, Gus has added new Photos of Dave & Mildred's most recent trip to Australia & New Zealand. Both these trips taking place in the year 2000. As you know, Dave & Mildred are world travelers & hope to continue visiting other Countries as long as they are physically able. The Photos are high quality & perfectly identified. Enlarging enhances the enjoyment one gets from seeing each picture in more detail. Gus has also added a porcelain painting of the Brig Niagara, by Norma Jell & that can be seen in the Erie area Icon next to Dick Dunn's Photograph of the same ship. What a contrast between two mediums of expression. Both so excellently done. Gus also has added a couple more Comments to his Comment Page that you all might like to read. The latest additions to our wWeb Site indicates we are moving ahead into this new year.

Saturday, February 3, 2001 at 8:24 a.m. Eastern TimeToday is hereby designated as "Smile - How are you day" to any Friend or Stranger you might meet.
I realize some of you live in much warmer areas where a smile & a friendly greeting is easier to come by then we Classmates who live in the freezing Northern part of this great Country. That being said, on to other happenings. One must pull up Peg Perry's "Since Graduation Message" to read what an excellent version of her life has been since Her graduation from LPHS in 1948. She has patiently been putting up with my constant urgings to accomplish this, as I have been doing to several other Classmates, who's own pages are still tragically blank. Hopefully, should they read Peg's message, they will be prompted to either match or surpass what she has written. I send this challenge to those of you that I have contacted to pick up my challange & show us what you've experieced in your lives in the 53 years since our graduation. Another Topic of interest. I entered our New Chat Room, that Gus has been working on, to find that the reponse time to chatting has drastically been improved from what it was before. I was able to send five messages in just a very short time & have them appear on the Chat Room Screen almost immediately. Of Course, since I was the only one in the room, with the exception of webcd, who responded to some of my messages, with appropriate remarks, I was still able to leave a record of what was said, for others to read when they entered. I suggest you try this new Chat Room, to form your own opinions. I have decided to come out of hibernation, since receiving Dr. Jack Warthman's E-Mail the other day. He reported that in their back yard on, I think, the seventh green of their Pine Hurst, North Carolina home, were some 200 Robins. Temperature at that time was 60 degrees. With this in mind more of my messages will be appearing on this site, possibly making Gus archive these messages, to this site, more often. You're messages will also be welcome, which would speed the archiving process that much faster. Something must have happened to me in these golden years of my life that I didn't have in my High School years. This becoming more vocal in my pattern of life. Some may say that I talk too much, but it could be a case of storing it up all these past years, only to have it appear now. I'll leave that to you to judge. Your judgement will be appreciated & it won't offend me.

Thursday, February 8, 2001 at 12:22 p.m. Eastern TimeWhere are my compatriots who helped me with their messages to this Corner. PeggieP, Alice Rushton, Bob Jell & Don Bloom were a source of info that I came to rely on to keep this Page alive & well. We would get an occasional message from Gus, which is always appreciated. I decided I couldn't wait any longer for their updates, so here I am filling in the empty spaces. Our new Class Chat Room is becoming more active lately.Gus has decreased the response time from entry to chat. The regulars are
Carrie Lee, Bob Jell, Gus, Don Bloom or PeggieP, whoever can get control of the keyboard, myself & Maria, Gus's former Wife. She threatened to throw her Web Tv in the trash can, when she first logged in, due to many frustrating problems that She was experiencing. We should all remind Maria that she isn't alome in those frustrating moments working with the Inter Net. Kathleen Fuller is out of the Hospital after several days of treatment for Pneumonia. Just to remind you again, Art Bennett will be admitted to Hamot Hospital for Colon surgery on April 12, 2001. I will send him our prayers & best wishes for a speedy recovery, on behalf of our LPHS Class of 1948. Dave Noyer was at the last Alumni Luncheon at the Moose Club, February 1st & he is doing fine after his recent Cardiac Angioplasty with an arterial stent required. Dr, Jack Warthman sent me e-mail last week saying that, on their return home to Pine Hurst, North Carolina, they saw over 200 Robins in their backyard on the 9th Fairway of their Community Golf Course. I received a follow up e-mail the next day saying that they had all disappeared and were heading North. I'll certainly be on the lookout for them to arrive here in North East. The five local North East Wineries will soon introduce their fine blends into the Japanese Market, according to the local North East Breeze. Local Wine varieties have become quite popular here & with out of town visitors who attend the yearly Grape Festival in late September. We only hope they have success in this new International Market. Well time to close for other's to hopefully come on board with their happenings. I'm sure there is much to add for us to enjoy.

Thursday, February 8, 2001 at 8:12 p.m. Eastern TimeThe Valentine's Day centerpiece (in place of tiger cubs) is Jacque David's "Mars Disarmed by Venus and the Three Graces." In the background, one of the Graces is putting his helmet on the shelf, another is pouring him wine and the third has taken his shield. In the foreground, Venus has her left hand on his thigh and is crowning him with a laurel wreath while cupid removes his sandals. This boy's just about had it though he still clings to his spear.
Mars and Venus were the names given by the Romans to Ares and Aphrodite. The three Graces were Aphrodite's daughters and Cupid (or Eros) was her son. Here the whole family is in on the bit and it is likely that Mars will be tamed, at least temporarily, by love.
Seemed suitable to Valentines Day. Enjoy.

Sunday, February 11, 2001 at 11:29 a.m. Eastern TimeHello once again,
For anyone who hasn't checked the pictures of the elbow tree, please do. They will bring back many happy and nostalgic memories. The pictures are of the four seasons of the year, and each one is a nice as the next. I have no idea where Gus gets all of these pictures and info that he gives us, but thank you Gus for helping us to remember the 'good old days' that we spent in our "Hometown, U.S.A." Sunday, February 18, 2001 at 8:53 a.m. Eastern TimeI received a surprise e-mail, Friday, February 16th, from Art Swetland, LPHS Class of 1947 saying that he had been browsing the Internet & stumbled into our LPHS CLass Of 1948 Web Site. His comment was "Wow, what a Web site". He felt slighted though because there was no mention of his own Class of 1947. However, I replied that if he would check out certain icons on our site, he would find some of his Classmates there, especially attending those wild parties at various houses & famous watering holes in New York State. He is now living in Cape Coral, Florida on the 8th Fairway of Palmento Pines Country Club. Similar to Dr. Jack Warthman & Good Wife Irene now living on the 7th Fairway of their Community home in North Carolina.
Art says he still plays Golf 3 to 4 times a week & holds onto a 7 handicap. He is now listed on the E-Mail Icon of our Main Page, under E-Mail others. For those who are Friends of Art & remember him from High School Days, an E-Mail hello would be appropriate.
Art Bennett is now home with his Wife Barbara (Barb) only 5 days after surgery for Colon Cancer. His surgeon gave him a clean bill of health, said they were able to remove all the Cancerous Tissue & that he could resume his regular diet at his own comfortable pace. In fact, when I asked him if he thought he would be able to attend our next Alumni Luncheon at the Moose Club, March lst, he said "Why Not - I feel pretty good now". So if it is not rushing him, we will welcome him back after his long bout with medical problems.
We're still waitig for those Robins that Jack Warthmann promised were heading North to our backyard. So far Winter is reluctant to loosen her grip on North East. I noticed at the last rainy 40 degree day, the earthworms had appeared on the surface, so "Come on home, Robins, you're food is on the table & waiting".
Guess that should fill in the blank spots since my last message to this corner. Peace & Good Will to All & enjoy your day wherever you might be.

Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at 8:27 a.m. Eastern TimeThere are four new names of former LPHS graduates now located on our Class Main Page, Find E-Mail Icon under E-Mail others. One is a graduate of 1947 & the others graduated in 1949, 1951 1953.
When they contacted me, thay all expressed amazement & excitement on the depth of our Class of 1948 Web Site that gus has designed & created. Their wish was that their own Class would have one so complete. They all requested their names & E-Mail addresses be included in our site, so other of their Classmates or Friends, who might log in & see their names, could result in contact with those that they haven't seen or heard from since their graduation many years ago. Sounds logical to me.
These four former LPHS Graduates are:
1. Art Swetland, Class of 1947; e-mail: ASwetland@aol,com
2. Marilyn Steimer, Class of 1949; e-mail: Mmsstm@aol.com
3. Nancy Bichler, Class of 1951; e-mail: NTuft@aol.com
4. Jean Steimer, Class of 1953; e-mail: jeansba@aol.com
As you notice all have AOL for their on-line contact. Our best wishes to them now & in their futures.

Friday, February 23, 2001 at 1:15 p.m. Eastern TimeA whole lot of new stuff has been added, some of which I may have mentioned before. At one point in coming on line, you were asked to "Please Enter Your Name." Since then, you have been greeted with "Hi Yourname", Yourname being that which you entered.
Right next to it at the top of the Main Page, is the time and date. That updates only when you click on something -- anything. So if you haven't done anything for 10 minutes, don't miss your dentist appoinment because the clock is slow.
If you are on Webtv, the time doesn't show. That's because the program (which I stole) is written in Javascript and Webtv doesn't read it. I'll change it when I find a suitable replacement. Javascript can do strange things to computer screens.
We are now recording who comes on line and what they do while here. A statisical program will read the logs and put them into meaningful form for reports to the Webmasters. We should be better able to serve you if we know what you access most and what you avoid.
For those who love the holidays, our 'seasonal' main pages (remember Halloween & Christmas) are on line. Go to Class Links (right hand bottom of Main Page) and select Too Good For Words. You can select your favorite season and run the system from there.
A day or two before Valentines Day was over, we added five flying cupids to the screen. For ten seconds they attacked Venus and Mars, shooting love arrows at them before departing. That, too, is done with Javascript so the Webtv folks have to be content with seeing the five cupids sitting on the top left of their screens.
Another javascript application appears on Dee Cunningham's and my Family Albums. There a short message ("Wait for me, Dee") trails along after your cursor wherever you move it. Cute, but not for everyone. Let me know if you want one on your picture albums.
Class Links has a new item in the upper right hand corner, "Add Your Own Links." That contains links put online by your fellow classmates (so far I'm the only contributor). You can go to the links or add your own favorite links. All you have to know is the URL (http://www.yoursite.com) to get there. Just follow the instructions. The program won't let you make an error of omission.
Our Class Files icon has proven the favorite way to get around most of the system to find classmate information other than events. To use it,however, one need know what they are looking for and where to find it. We now have over 2,500 files on line so that can pose problems in locating what you seek.
Thus, we now have a search engine that goes through all 2500 files (plus Bill McCall's Iroquois Alumni Email Site) in a matter of seconds to find what you seek. You'll find it at the top of the Class Files page.
Click on it then enter the words that you want it to find. For instance, if you enter the single word 'Blanche', it will report back the nine pages on which Dee Cunningham's mother's name and pictures appear. The words 'Villa Maria' will tell you that those words appear on Peg Runzo's Since Graduation page. All you need do is click on the pages on the search report to go directly to them.
Play around with it, entering words at random. Its amazing some of the things that show up on Guest Books and other text files (including the Webmasters Corner. Finally, we have started Dick Jell's pet project, the Classmates Birthday data base. You'll find the bare bones beginning at the top of the Find & Email page. First, we need everybody's natal day. Please email them to Dick so we can start getting out timely greetings.

Sunday, February 25, 2001 at 1:23 a.m. Eastern TimeThe Email files have had cosmetic surgery and are now a bit more pleasing to the eye. We have long piggy backed on Bill McCall's Iroquois Alumni Email Data Base by going to http://www.irqpa.org/irq/ to get those email addresses. They are now accessible from the Email icon files at the bottom of the first page listed by graduating class. If you are looking for someone and do not know their class, use our new search facility. Bill now has over 1,000 email addresses on line.
Should you come across some icons labeled 'Freefind' over the next several days, feel free to click on them to see what, if anything, is there. They are for a new search engine we are experimenting with. It creates a site map for us (a neat way to get around the Classmates site) and will also tell you what's new since the last time you were on line.

Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at 6:18 a.m. Eastern TimeWe're getting closer with the Update utility but still no cigar. The idea is to let you enter a date, then display the files that have been created or modified on or after that date. See the explanation atthe top of the Update page.
You can enter your desired date by pressing on the buttons, but that does nothing. At the bottom of the page you will see a new "What's New" button. Click on it to see the one hundred [100] most recently modified or created pages.
That is a utility created by one of our search engine sites. It 'spiders' our site daily to create a new search index and, in the process, extracts the "What's New" file. At the left of each entry is the date that the file was newly created or modified. You can use that date to determine whether you've seen the changes or additions to any given file.

Friday, March 2, 2001 at 8:27 a.m. Eastern TimeOur Birthday Data Base is almost 100% covered with the exception of eleven Classmates, who will hopefully be contacted, for us to achieve that goal. That's not too bad considering there are 48 Classmates listed in that Data Base. If any of you can send me some leads for Virginia Sherwood Fouse, Joanne George Stephenson & Charles Cadwallader, that would be appreciated. We also gained two new additions to our Web Family which now numbers 24. They are: Carolyn Clint Knight geky@velocity net & Helen Hunt George ntnyheg@gateway.com Helen recently had major surgery & is recovering. They both would appreciate receiving a welcoming message from one & all. There are now 12 entries to LPHS Other E-Mail Address from graduates of LPHS prior to & following our own graduation in 1948. Recent additons are Art Swetland - Class of 1947 & Raymond Musser - Class of 1949. Their e-mail addresses may be found by going to that site on Find E-Mail. The LP Alumni Picnic at Shades Beach July 29, 2001 invitations, in addition to an attached invitation to our own 1948 Class Dinner July 28th, 2001 at the LP Golf Club, will be mailed out around the middle of March. The New Lighthouse Inn ( Formerly Soudan's) is being competely renovated, including the 19 Motel Units & Restaurant & opening date is projected for around the end of March. This might be a possiblility for those coming from out of town to find lodging while here for the outings. I will have phone number, e-mail address & fax number very shortly. Their Motel rates are quite reasonable compared with other rates for this area & for that time of year. I believe all of us are patiently waiting for the change of seasons to appear. Spring would be more then welcome after the severe Winter Season, hopefully winding down.

Major item to pass on to you Classmates is an E-mail message I received from Judy Sharrer yesterday. Corky apparently has experienced the fourth of a series of small TIA's or strokes & is experiencing some memory lapses. They fully intend to be with us for our Class Dinner at the LP Golf Club, July 28, 2001 & expect to stay over for the Alimni Picnic the following day. I have been coaxing both Judy & Corky to sit down & present us with his fabulous "Since Graduation Message" to his Personal Web Page. She said that Corky really opened up & related some really great stories to his Grandson yesterday, about his experiences on the Lakes. Judy promises to buy a small tape recorder to catch all these stories as Corky recalls them. Can't wait for the final results.

Monday, March 5, 2001 at 4:20 a.m. Eastern TimeAlways check the Update icon when you come on line. Our search engine re-indexes (spiders) our 2,500 files automatically every evening and creates the "What's New" file. It shows, in descending date order, each and every file that has been modified or created over the past month.
Just click on those you haven't seen yet and you'll always be up to date on the changes and additions to our web site.
Have you tried finding information with the search engines yet? Which document mentions a Penn State weekend?

Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at 8:16 p.m. Eastern TimeHi, Everyone. Just thought I would take this opportunity to say Thank You to Gus again. He keeps out doing himself again and again for us, his "old" classmates and friends. This Class Site
is better than any other of its kind. Aren't we lucky to have Gus doing all of this for us? I
would also like to invite everyone who is connected to the Internet, to join other classmates at either one of our Chat Rooms. It is
a lot of fun chatting, and getting to know each
other again. We get together at about 7:00p.m.
most evenings. Come and say "Hi" anyway. The Jell
Brothers are always willing to help any of us, who
need a helping hand. Hope to see you all at our
Class Dinner or Alumni Picnic in July 2001.

Sunday, March 11, 2001 at 6:57 a.m. Eastern TimeOur Class Update Page now shows that Charles Cadwallader is the latest addition to our Web Family. He is number 25 on the roster. His e-mail address is listed in our Update Icon & also on the e-mail Icon. It is: ccad1097@home.com Not bad as we are now over half way there with a total of 47 Classmates now listed in our High School Directory found on the New Birthday Data Base. Several of my Classmate Friends have e-mailed or "Snail" mailed Classmate March's Birthday greetings already. The first being Phil Nason, whose Birthday was March 9th, 2001. Happy Birthday, Phil. Hope this Data Base receives a good response for those Classmates whose Birthdays will be coming later in the Year.

Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at 8:34 a.m. Eastern TimeOur Class Update Page now shows the latest Classmate Birthday Rosters, one for all users & one for Web TV users. Both will soon be complete with the addition of Virginia Sherwood Fouse's Birthday, should someone contact me with Her latest Address & Phone Number. The alphebetical listing of all Classmates Birthdays, located on the Main Roster under the Title of "Birth Date Order * e=mail" has been accomplished by Gus, so that we can now follow month by month the Birthdays as they appear in sequence. These Rosters are also located in our e=mail others Icon on our Main Web Site Page.
Jo Ann George Stephensen's mailing address has been changed to 379 Longview Drive, Elliottsburg, Pa., 17024. Jo Ann & Bill hope to attend our 2001 Alumni Picnic & Class Dinner on July 29th & July 28th respectively.
Early Alumni Picnic & Class Dinner Returns show two Classmates unable to attend. They are Frances Iesue, who requests that we take her name off our future mailing list & Beverly Hetrick, who will try to attend our 2002 event.
Willkeep you all posted as future returns are received.

03/28/2001Continuing update on our Class Dinner, July 27,200l. Dee & Fred Taylor will be vacationing in Northern Europe with Audrey & Ken Campbell, from July 6th to July 27th, so they won't be able to attend, Dave & Mildred Knapp have travel plans at that time, so they also won't be with us this year. However, one bright outlook to this entire situation is that we will have the following Classmates here in the Erie Area in May & we might be able to arrange a Mini-Class Dinner at that time. The Classmates are Dave & Mildred Knapp, Bob & Norma Jell. Don Bloom & Peg Perry, Virginia Fouse, Jack & Irene Warthman & last, but not least, Betty & I. I hope to arrange something at the Waterfall Restaurant. Virginia Sherwood Fouse is now officially our 26th Web Family Member. Virginia's Birthday is February 22, 1930 & Her E-Mail is vfouse@home.com Virginia's Husband, Ray, passed away in 1988 & She still maintains Her home in Aliquippa, Pa. Several of her Classmates have already E-Mailed Her their welcome to our Web Family. I talked to Jim Drake & Marilyn Faulker last Monday & caught them ready to mail their Alumni Picnic & Dinner Checks to me, so that definitely is a plus. Will continue to keep you all updated.

04/06/2001All the activity lately has been with the newly activated 55th Class of 1948 Icon. Nominating prospective Committee Members, Holding the first of many Committee Meetings & transcribing of Committee Meeting Minutes for all Classmates to read. Realizing that this 55th Class Reunion won't happen until 2003, what is being done now is just the preliminary work to establish the base for our operations. Peg Perry, Don Bloom, Jean Shepard & Carrie Lee are all in the process of returning to Erie & Conneaut, Ohio, from their Winter lodgings in Florida & Arizona, so activity is very light in our Talk City Chat Room until they return. Latest reports on the status of Shades Beach for or July Alumni Picnic, is that the project is moving very slowly. All The old complex has beeen removed, tree roots, that proved to be an obstacle for walking around the Picnic Pavilions, have been removed & a lttle earth has been moved. Hopefully, with the arrival of warmer weather, Shades Beach's renovation will move quickly for the expected opening the Summer. Our Monthly Alumni Noon Luncheons at the Moose Club attracted 68 Alumnni Thursday, April 5th. A delicious Buffet was served & several new Alumni were present for the first time. Liz & Joyce Dorman ( Joyce now lives here in Erie, with her Daughter), Delores Starks, Class of 1947 or 46? & Rose Rafter. A fun time with Bob (Red) Conley as our MC. A 50-50 drawing is held each luncheon & the lucky winner always leaves with a snile on their faces. This is a wonderful time for all Alumni to get together, greet one another & surprise the kitchen staff with their tremendous appetites. Hopefully my message to the Webmaster Corner, this morning, will bring back a little life to this vital part of our Class Web Page. Talk to you all later.

Just wanted to get caught up on all the activities while here. Have enjoyed all the new pictures in Dicks and Gus'es family album
Hope this finds everyone in good health and hope to see most of you in a couple of weeks.

04/17/2001Hi Friends;
Just a quick message to let you all know that
we arrived home safely, but having some sinus
problems along the way. This is the first day that I could get set up here and have our "North"
address put into full swing. Note the one we use
while in Conneaut. There were 102 e-mails waiting
for us today. Needless to say, it will take me a while before I get to all of them. The weather
was really hot in North Carolina, and the pollen
very thick. I was under the weather with my
allergies, so did not call Jack and Irene while
at my daughters. I felt really bad about that,
but will look forward to visiting with them and
all of you this summer whenever we can get together. I am filling up my calendar as we
speak. Hope this finds you all well and enjoying
the cold and snow that has arrived here in the
north. I am freezing and trying to cope!!!
Blessings to everyone.....

04/19/2001Easter is now over & we are temporarily viewing our Standard LPHS Class of 1948 Main Web Page. Mother's of our Class will soon be honored with Gus's Mother's Day Theme offering shortly. Carrie Lee Gregry is now back from warm, sunny Florida to adjusting to the reality of a cold Conneaut, Ohio climate. Carrie Lee has brighened our Talk City Chat Room for the past two evenings. Bob & I were elated when MeeMaa1 entered the room to chat after being "in transit" from Florida. Peg Perry & Don Bloom will soon be back with us as they are due to arrive here in Erie today, April 19th, 2001. They too will have to adjust to our cold April Spring weather, after enjoying the 90's in Phoenix. Our 2003 LPHS Class of 1948 55th Reunion Committee is now confirmed with the exception of Allene Benton Reed, who I will contact today to see if She will be interested in joining the group. The Committee consists of Harold Cable; Dee Cunningham; Dick Jell; Jeanne Loftus; Carrie Lee Rhinehart; Peg Runzo & Marge Smith. Marge Burick agrees to be a part of that this Committee & I will ask Gus to add her name to the Roster. If there are any other Classmates who would like to be included in our Committee, Please contact me or Gus. Kathleen Fuller has sold Her home on Saltsman Road & will move into The South Shore Apartments on East Lake Road. She will be moving Mother's Day weekend & her new address will be 390 Joshua Drive - Apartment 1C, Erie, Pa., 165ll. Her Telephone Number should continue to be 899-9735. Now I have to get dressed to pull our Lawn Mower out & mow our lawn for the first time this year. Guess that can be done now that the snow is finally off the ground. Peace be with you all.

04/25/2001Hi to all - Great be to back on line after being a Guest of Hamot Medical Center for 6 days. My adventure started last Thurday Morning, April 18th, with a tired feeling and blood pressure of 180/100 plus some heart irreguarlity. Went to the North East Health Care Center where they recommended I take the Ambulance Ride in to Hamor ER. Started out with complete workup there in the ER with EKG's, Blood Work, X-ray. etc. Admitted for further examinations, such as Echo Cardiogram, Thalium Stress Test and finally a Cardiac Catheriztion Tuesday Morning, April 24th, where three 93% blockages were found. The Cardiologist performed Angioplasty on two of them with one stent stent, shaving off excess plaque buildup first, the inserting a balloon cath with a coil wire stent to the plaque site, positioning the stent in place inflating the balloon to expand he stent to fill the artery & let natural blood flow begin. This entire procedure is viewed by the patient on tv monitors, who is awake all the time and feeling no discomfort. Too much time & contrast due had been used in the first Stent, so I am scheduled to return in one month for same day Surgery to have the third site taken care of.Spent one more night in the Hospital, the Betty arrived with our Golden Chariot to take me home. Many Thanks to Don Bloom & Peg Perry who sent a beautiful Azalea to my room. YY Nephew, his wife, his Son & and wife sent me a special cup with a bolloon and 5 huge coolkies. Appropriate for a hungry Hospital Patient to chew on between meals.
We received one more reservation to the Class Dinner July 27th at the LP Golf Club. Dave & Joyce Noyer's arrived in todays Mail. That now makes 8 around the table. so far. Received many get well cards for which I appreciated very much.
Take care all & talk to you all layer

04/26/2001First of all - in my haste to write yesterday's message to the Webmaster Corner, I took shortcuts in spelling, typos & failure to edit the message before sending. Seeing that I had just been released for Hamot Medical Center & still groggy from some of those "happy pills"they give you. Bob, Betty, Peg Perry, Don Bloom & Carrie Lee & many other numerous other callers who talked to me the evening, before my release to come home, will verify my "funny" conversation. I'm sorry for that
performance. Many times, while trying to eat a little something following Surgery, I would drift off & waken to find my hand laying in the food. That's how strong that stuff is.
Finally, Jack & Irene Warthman will be in the Erie Area May 19th through May 21st. I plan to see if a mini reunion can be arranged then with other Classmates who say they will be here about the same time. The Warthman's will be unable to be with us in July for the Class Dinner or LP Alumni Picnic. Will keep you all updated as new info comes in.

05/01/2001I guess my April 26th message was a little premature in that I found myself back in Hamot Medical Center's ER the following Saturday, April 28th. Another instance of sudden High Blood Pressure, rapid & irregular Heart Rate. The Cardiologist's all put their heads together & arrrived at a new Molotov CocKtail of Medications that had to be monitored while in the Hospital. Needless to say, three more days in the Hospital is not what I would call "My Cup Of Tea". It might be too early to see the outcome yet, but I was well enough for Betty to Drive me Home today, May 1, 2001. Hope to stay that way. I have one more Stent to be scheduled, then I hope to be back in good shape again. To all those Friends & Classmates who wished me well thoughout this 9 days of my "Coronary Experience", I wish to extend to each and everyone of them my heart felt thanks for their encouragement. I will never forget their welcome thoughts that helped me through this experience.

05/11/2001Happy summer everyone--
Get well wishes go to both Dick and Bob Jell. Dick recently came home from Hamot, after two seperate stays earlier this month--and Bob is a patient in a hospital in Floriday, but is waiting to hear when he will be released. Bob recently told me that when one of them is sick the other invariably gets sick too, because they are identical twins. I'm sure they'd both be happy to hear from their fellow classmates--after all what would we do without them. They certainly have been a tremendous help on every class activity we have had--so, come on you two--get out of those beds and get well--we all miss you and wish you the best.

05/19/2001Dear Classmates....
Just thought I would jot down a few things as
this Memorial Day Holiday is almost upon us. We have many things to be thankful for, and these
precious friendships from long ago are near the top of my list. So glad to hear that Dick and
Bob Jell are recovering from their hospital trips,
and soon to be fit as a fiddle. Bob and Norma will be leaving on their journey north next week,
and we wish them "Save Trip". I was very glad to
receive a phone call from Jack Warthman while he and Irene were in Erie for a short visit. Hope to
see them at our next (55th) reunion. I also had
a letter from Don Baron. He and Betty will be at
the next reunion too. I will encourage him to get
a computer and email instead of the "snail mail"
style he is doing now. It is always good to hear
that friends are doing well. I would like to
thank Gus again for the nice decorations he is always putting up on the Main Web Page of our class. It seems he is always thinking of his old
classmates. We are thinking of you too, Gus and
saying Thank You again for all that you continually do for us. I hope that all of you will try at sometime to login to one of the chat
rooms. It is a great way to keep track and chat
with "the good old boys and gals" from the LPHS
Class of '48. At this Holiday, I want to thank
all of you who served in the Military and helped
in any way to make this a free Country. Hope to see you all at the Dinner in July.

05/23/2001Carrie Lee, you're a hard act to follow. Your May 19th message to the Webmaster Corner was excellent & brought us up to date on what has happened since your last message. Betty & I, along with our 12 year old Grandson Scott, had a great time with Jack & Irene Warthman, while they were in town May 19th throught May 21st. Irene attended her 50th Edinboro College Class Reunion on May 21st. The 5 of us had an excellent dinner at the Waterfall Restaurant, followed by several hours of chat at our Home in North East. Jack put our Grandson through several mental problems, while eating & later at our Home. That's the Teacher & Educator in Jack. Scott was equal to the task & said he enjoyed our time with the Warthman's. Jack & Irene have plans to visit Southeast Asia in the near future and then their plans call for a cruise from California to Hawaii after the Southeast Asia trip. The Warthman's & The Knapp's should get together as they are two of our Class's World Traveling Families. Neither Classmate will be able to attend our Class Dinner & Alumni Picnic in July, 2001. Dee & Fred Taylor will be travelng over to Europe with Audrey & Ken Campbell & won't be able to attend either event. I'm hopng that Betty LaRose will be with us this year. She is another traveler who has made several trips to Scotland & can't seem to get enough of that beautiful Country. Speaking of Class Dinner & Alumni Picnic: Reservations for the Class Dinner are in for Don Bloom; Peg Perry; Jim Drake; Marilyn Faulkner; Carrie Lee; Nancy Shearer; Betty & Dick Jell & Bob & Norma Jell. Reservations expected are: Alice & Howard Cavanaugh; Harold & Bess Cable; Don & Betty Baron; Dick & Dot Dunn & Judy & Corky Sharrer. Alumni Picnic Reservations have been received from: Don Bloom; Peg Perry; Jean Coates; Jim Drake; Marilyn Falkner; Joyce & Dave Noyer; Betty & Dick Jell & Bob & Norma Jell. June 14th is the cut off so there still is additional time to receive late requests. Our Class Dinner has a capacity of 20+, so there is room for a few more. No problem with capacity for our Alumni Picnic as we have had up to 600 Alumnus attend in past years. This will be our 7th annual LP Alumni Picnic & we always try to better to beat the numbers from previous years. A New Shade's Beach should be available by Late July, with a New Pavilion & Rest Room facilities along with an updated cooking house to go with this change. Will continue to update, as July gets nearer.

05/24/2001Gus forwarded me an e-mail that he had received from Kevin Grant, who requested information on our 2001 LPHS Class Dinner & LP Alumni Picnic at Shade's Beach, both events this July. Kevin is a 1972 Graduate 0ff Iroquois High School. He is, in his own words, "Writer/Editor/Whatever for the "Lawrence Park Town Crier", a bimonthly newspaper supported by LP Township, and sent to all LP addressess". He says that he will receive occasional items from the LP Historical Society, but would welcome anything & everything from The Class Of 1948, that he might enter into his newspaper. His e-mail address is: KevinGrant@aol.com He grew up in Wesleyville and moved to Lawrence Park where he originally lived on Priestly Avenue, and now lives on Smithson Avenue. One of his Philosophies is: "The only way to know where you are is to know where you've been". Sounds like a very interesting person. He also understands that Lawrence Park is the best Community around & would like to garner your viewpoints as to how did it get that way? He realizes that this did not happed by accident & His main concern is that too much History dies with our People, and shouldn't. Lawrence Park Township will soon have it's own Website & Kevin is hoping to place some of his articles, from each issue of the "Town Crier" on it. He has also finished typing "The History of Iroquois High School" that was researched by several classes from IHS in the early 1990's. Publication should occur in the next several months, and he is sure Wesleyvile, Lawrence Park & Iroquois Alumni will be notified. He directed me to The Iroquios Alumni Site at: www.iroquoisalumni.com for those of us who might be interested. Gus already has access to this Alumni Site in our own Class Web Page. I tried logging into their Website, but response time was excessive, whether it's my Web TV Service or not, will try again this Morning. Let's try to give Kevin an insight why we think Lawrence Park was, is and will always remain our "Home Town". We all have the seniority to back us up with whatever we might contribute.

06/02/2001Hopefully, this writer will stay away from the Hospital for awhile. Just got home from my third experience in a little over 2 months. 06/14/2001For the very first time since Gus created & designed our Class Web Site a couple years ago, I note with regret that it has become silent & little used. No Webmaster Corner comments, no interest in the chatroom & a much missed comment or two from our Web Master. The Jell's Twins absence due to recent Medical Problems hasn't helped a bit. If the spirit is willing & the body weak, then, no excuse is intended for us to be lax in our efforts to keep this special Web Site alive & healthy. I regret that we haven't had too much success convincing more of our Web Family to help revive what few High Schools have been able to achieve. I guess the standard phrases, too busy or can't be bothered seems to ring true with those of us, although part of our Web Family, find they fall in this category. It's ironical that with the past two years of blood, sweat & tears, bringing our Web Site to the heights it become, I find that it can just as quickly, if not quicker, return to Classmate disinterest. We are all now in the Senior Citizen Status - the 70 & 71 years ofthis stage of our lives. It only takes one day to change your life style from being active & healthy to that of not being able to continue as before. Would be nice to have those additions to those Personal Web Pages for your Classmates to enjoy & remember. The phrase, so well known, "Time to stop & smell the roses" seems appropriate in this situation. Let's do our best to bring the LPHS Class of 1948 back into the vibrant pages of Class History. Best Wishes to all & The Lord's Blessings be with you now & in the future. Your Friend & Classmate - Dick Jell

06/15/2001Hello fellow classmates;
Hope this little note finds you all well and
happy. Today, I will wish Gus a very Happy
Birthday! I guess we all know these years are
creeping up mighty fast. As my husband says, we
are still on the right side of the grass. If the
Good Lord is willing, we hope to be here for a
long time yet. I thought I would send a note to
let you all know that, my husband and I will be
flying to Vancouver on Monday (18th) and taking a
Cruise up the inland water ways of Alaska. This
has been a dream of my husbands since he was a
young man. We have traveled in many of these
United States, but never in Alaska. Others who
have made this trip, say it is beautiful country
there. I hope to take many pictures, and add them
to my Webpage Album. I will let you know how it
all turns out. Sea sickness is NOT on my schedule. I also would like to tell each of you
if you can attend the Alumni Luncheons, held on
the first Thursday of the month, at the Moose Club, it is very worth while. An enjoyable time
is had by everyone, plus a fine lunch. I am
looking forward to seeing those that can attend
our dinner in July, before the picnic. Last but
not least, here is wishing all you fellows a
Happy Father's Day. Take Care and God Bless....

06/27/2001After a very frustrating month, and many calls to web tv, I finally got my web to come up tonight--for how long-I don't know.
I would like to thank all my classmates for the bud vase from our class. It brought a certain closeness of all of my old friends, on a day that I really needed good friends. Most of you knew my mother, and I want to thank each and every one of you, for everything you did for me during such a sad period.
We have 25 reservations for our class dinner at the Golf Club and I'm sure we who are attending are looking forward to seeing everyone. Dick and I attended the Alumni Picnic Committee meeting last night, and so far there are 411 paid admissions to the picnic, with more still to come in. So it will be a fun filled weekend for all.
A "get well soon" wish goes out to Bob Jell---we miss seeing him.Glad to say that Dick is doing some better.
See you all in July---Peggie

07/06/2001Hi Gang;
We are home from our Alaskan Trip and it is a
beautiful part of our country. There were 2100
passengers and 900 crew members. The Ocean
Princess is a beautiful ship too. We had rain only one day and that was at Ketchikan, where we
took a tour of the city in a horse drawn carriage.
It was colder than I had thought it would be, but
I just purchased more sweatshirts to go under my
jacket. Inside the ship it was warm and felt like
we were at home. I can't say enough about the
Princess Lines. They had everything planned out
at each port of call and many things to do as we
sailed through Glacier Bay and the College Fjords.
Needless to say, we didn't sleep much, with so
many things to do. The food was grand and you
could eat at any time of day or night. There were
2 Clubs, 2 Theaters, and one Grand Casino. Many
more shops, lounges, dining rooms, card room, and
even a library. Fantastic!!! It is good to be
home and we have enjoyed having company this week
over the 4th of July Holiday. Our calendar is
still filling up with more company and reunions.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you that are
able to attend our Class Dinner, July 28th.
Take Care, and be Happy!! Always, Carrie Lee

Both of us have been through a tough several months coping with Medical problems. Bob's much more serious then mine. I really missed those occasional Classmate messages to our Webmaster Corner. Carrie Lee has been so gracious in her recent additions & I'm sure that all who log in appreciate that hello & how are you. Betty & I have been enjoying the LP Alumni monthly
noon luncheons at the Erie East Moose Lodge on Iroquois Avenue. Most attending are all familiar to those who grew up in Lawrence Park. The Annual Class Dinner & LP Alumni Picnic went well with 23 classmates at our LP Golf Club Class Dinner and almost 500 LP Alumni attending the Alumnic Picnic at Shade's Beach. There were other Classmates who missed our Class Dinner this year, which would have overwhelmed the capacity of the dining room we had reserved. Bob & Norma Jell were absent. Dee & Fred Hoke, along with with Ken & Audrey Campbell were off traveling together through Europe, while Dave & Mildred Knapp were on another trip to a different part of this "globe". I'm sure they will be adding photos to their travel spots as will Carrie Lee & Don with pics of their recent Alaskan Cruise. Irene & Jack Warthman missed our Dinner due to Irene's Edinboro College reunion earlier in July. They both stopped to visit us while in town, so we had a chance to visit in our home, plus have a nice Dinner at the Waterfall Restaurant. Alice & Howard Cavanaugh were driving up to be with us, but Howard came down with a respiratory problem and had to be detoured to John's Hopkins in Baltimore for treatment. Judy & Corky Sharrer had family events scheduled that weekend. Did you know that Corky's favorite past time is playing poker with three elderly ladies, in their neighborhood, once a week for hours. Judy has his schedule, sees him leave & waits for his return - when ever. He's been known to take off driving with the car door open, in a rush to get to their poker game before the cards get a chance to "cool off". He had an offer to take a trip on the Lake Freighter, as a consulting Chief Engineer, But Judy put her foot down and said no climbing ladders at this stage of the game. We'll see what happens in 2002, for our next HS Class Dinner. Should we surpass the 23 classmates from this year, then whoever is in charge can shoot for larger dining room. Be nice to thinks along those lines. Don & Betty Baron announced that they will be joining those world traveling Classmates of our's by taking a trip to Rome. We'll see what pictures they might send for our Class Web Site. Two of our Classmates have been or recently been admitted to Nursing homes.
Betty Cohick has been in a nursing home & Betty Ludwig, was recently diagnosed with advanced Lou Gehrig's Disease and is now in Twinbrook Nursing Home, Lawrence Park. So to end - Good news with the bad, as we all gain the never ending advance into our "Golden Years". No isn't that poetic.
Good Luck, Good Times & God's Blessings Be with You All. Dick & Bob Jell

08/09/2001Hi everyone.
Our Alumni Weekend was a huge success once again. The Alumni Committee had a meeting this past week and I have a few figures for you--168 people attended the get together at the Moose Club on Friday, We had 21 at our dinner at the L.P. Golf Club on Saturday, and Sunday there were 470 people in attendance at our annual picnic. All in all--if you can possibly make it next year, all I can say is-"Go For it". You don't know what a fun time you are missing!Just ask any of us who attended the festivities.
By the way, Joyce Phillips Noyer, our classmate, won the 50-50 at the picnic. Good for her!
Now it's time to settle down and get ready for fall-it seems summer goes so fast-but it so nice keeping in touch with our classmates through the long winter---so, keep in touch, and remember that "old friends are the bests friends"

08/22/2001It's been a rough and sad couple of weeks for our class and alumni. First, Geri Dorman Kline had a stroke and passed away. Next Betty Ludwig died and now, we've lost Bob Jell.
Our deepest and most sincere condolences to the families in this moment of sorrow.

08/29/2001Good Bye, dear Friends, Bob and Betty.
I will surely miss our Christmas greetings and
news of your families. And of course all the chats at Talk City from Bob who would keep us posted on the weather at Fort Myers. Our memories
of our school years will always be fondly and often remembered. I thank God for your wonderful
friendships through the years.
Until we meet again, Carrie Lee

09/02/2001For the prayers and the wonderful caring messages, my thanks to each of you. I'm now back at home in Ft. Myers starting another segment of my life, remembering all the wonderful, happy times and looking forward to keeping in touch with each of you that have become so special to me over the years that Bob and I were "partners". We traveled a lot of miles and visited many places, but none could compare with that little corner of Pennsylvania we loved to return to each year. I plan to continue that tradition and hope to be included in the activities of the Class of 1948. You folks will always be a part of my "extended family" With love and appreciation ---

09/10/2001Greetings to my Classmates.....
Thought I would once again invite you all to come to our Class Chat Room or come to Talk City.
MDB (Mary's Dairy Bar) is a great place to meet
and do some chatting. If you are shy or think
you just want to leave a message, you can do that
on the Web Master Corner or at the Class Chat Room. It is a nice way to know what our Friends
are up to and keep in touch. If anyone has heard
from Alice Rushton about the health of her husband
we would all like to know how Howard is doing.
Let's keep in touch. Carrie Lee

09/16/2001So many things come to mind at this time. The good and the bad. We haven't pulled so hard together since WWII. Yet, as might be expected, there is what can only be termed 'kneejerk reaction.'
The FAA and its tightened security requiring all to be at the airport 2 hours ahead of flight time. The tightened security is to assure that none take knives on board. Yet, anyone with imagination can easily fashion a weapon from items already on board -- a cocktail glas or plastic cup is readily turned into an effective knife.
Moreover, hijacking is for the destitute terrorist. Today's groups are wealthy and need not hijack to crash planes into buildings. They can buy Learjets or lease larger craft and pick their targets at their leisure.
The answer lies in our efforts to wage worldwide war against terrorist activities. Just as the seas were cleared of piracy, the world can be swept clean of terrorism.

09/16/2001Hi Ya'll,
My reaction to the WTC disaster is conservative. I think we should get whoever is responsible. However, my prayer is that they get only the right ones. I fear that emotiuon may override reason and they end up taking out the wrong people.
When you consider that the total number of terrorists in the world are less than 10,000, and that they are carefully hidden: you can see that rooting them out is going to be very hard. The other thing to consider is that they have have unlimited reserve of people. Parents are teaching their children to hate us from the cradle on up. So when they reach teenage, they are ready to take us on even at the cost of their life. They have a double hate for us: 1)as US citizens and (2)also as Christians.
Again, my prayer is for the President who needs wisdom to make the right decisions, and for all of us to continue our support for the long duration.
You asked for my opinion, Gus. Now you have it.
Good Ole Phil

09/17/2001Gus,
Reckon it was a close second to Pearl Harbor in modern History. Here we have an act of war that was conducted primarily against civilian targets. This jumps the track with the Geneva Convention which acts as a guide for war. Then we have the "folks" (note the useage of folks, as this will come upon innocent eyes perhaps) who pray to an apparent God who is not recognized by any of the Islamic types, who would condone this type of action, and give them a safe coduct pass to see their version of heaven. Take this and bundle it up with almost no known physical assets as command and control centers, and it presents quite a dilemma to say the least. How do you deal with people with no honor, morals, logic, etc. Should we accord them with any human feelings? Any answers out there??

10/06/2001As terrible as "current events" have been, there seems to be a feeling of closer bonds within our "community"--the USA. The added security, although time consuming, makes for a feeling of protectiveness to those willing to take to the skys. Hopefully, this feeling will extend down to the local level and we will all become a closer-knit group. I know you have all heard by now that my brother-in-law, Dick, has cancelled his internet connection. With all your help, perhaps he will be encouraged to get back on and stay in close contact with the Class of '48 group. This has been an unhappy time for him with his continuing health problems and the loss of our beloved Bob. So, do what you can and keep those words of encouragement going in his direction.

10/10/2001Just thought I would send a note to anyone that
wants to read it. I was in our chat rooms tonight, but they were empty, so guess I will chat
here for a minute. I heard from Helen Hunt George
and she is doing fairly well, but has had 2 heart
surgeries. She will be having a stress test very
shortly again. I think she would enjoy hearing
from any of our classmates. Dick Jell is slowly
improving, but has not reconnected his WebTV as
yet. He has been missed on line, so hopefully
we can encourage him, (by snail mail) to get on
again before the snow flies. Speaking of snow, it
sure has been cold enough here in Conneaut for
snow. After the big freeze the other night, we
have cleaned up our garden and we are getting ready to leave for the winter months. We will
leave for Wildwood Florida on the 29th of October.
My daughter lives just a few miles from Jack and
Irene Warthman in North Carolina, so I hope I will
be able to visit with them while stopping at our
daughter's home. I received an e-mail from Dave
and Millie Knapp. They were in N.H. and would be
coming to the Erie area on their way to Virginia.
Bettie M. LaRose will also be leaving for Florida
on the 28th of October. I hope some of us can get together at a central point this winter.
Well, guess that is about all the news I know right now. If anyone else knows something, why not add your message here and keep us all informed? With the way the world is now, it is
so important to keep in touch with "old" friends.
May God bless you all and keep you safe....
Always, Carrie Lee

10/24/2001Well, I guess it's time for me to write a few lines about my feelings from the recent disaster. We, here in Phoenix, Az. are starting to hold our breath. The World Series, Car races at PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) along with college football (ASU) amd then pro football, the Az Cardnials. All of this is to happen starting this coming Saturday. Needless to say, there are no hotel rooms or rental cars left in Phoenix. There are going to be millions of folks here and just pray that everything goes off without a hitch
On the subject of national securiety, I would just like to add the following. Talked to my Grandson (17 years old) right after the incident and he does not fully understand what is going on. Think we need to spend a lot of time telling the younger generation just how wonderful this country is. That's it for now folks, so here's wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season.
God Bless this Land

11/13/2001Hi Gang...
Well I am back. Note my southern address. It is nice to be where it is warm, even though it has taken me quite a while to get here. We spent
about 10 days in North Carolina visiting our family. There were some jobs for "dear old dad"
to do too. Seems that the children have a daddy
do list when we make the trip back and forth. It
makes him feel good to think he is still needed.
I received a letter from Treva Leroux Wallace. We
have kept in touch since Vangie passed away. In
her letter she told me that Van's husband Lee
Scobba passed away this summer. He had been in a
Nursing Home since Vangie's death, as he couldn't
seem to get along without her. Very sad...
It was nice chatting with Norma Jell and Peg Perry
tonight at Talk City. Why don't some of you other
guys and gals take the plunge and join us whenever
you can? It would be great! Talk to you again
soon at this same corner....Carrie Lee

11/25/2001It's been some time since my last message to this corner, in fact I went back in the archives to August 6, 2001, for my last entry. A lot has happened since last April of this year, which you all are aware of, so I will not dwell on the past, but keep driving myself to look into the future. I disconnected Web TV Service around the first of October, but missed my contacts with The Class Of 1948, so reconnected the first part of November. Good that I did since the chat room has been active daily with Carrie Lee, Peg & Don. Norma Myself. Gus will stop by for brief moments, & it is great to have him. While I was away from the internet. many of my classmates made personal phone calls to convince to come back on board. I will be forever indebted to them as they brought me out of a difficult period in my life. They are to be mentioned here now: Jack Warthman, Carrie-Lee, Peg Perry, The most expressive was Don Bloom, Art Anderson, Dee Hoke, Jean Nelson. Harold Cable, Alice Cavanaugh, Dick Dunn, Don Baron. Jim Drake, Dave Knapp, Bev. Hetrick, Art Bennett & last but not least, Norma Jell. Hope I haven't left anyone out.
Jack & Irene Warthman have decided to delay their trip to, I think China as well as Dave & Mildred Knapp on their trip to the Near East. It's a troubled World out there now, which makes one have second thoughts before traveling. Dave Knapp's Mother recently passed away, & will be a loss to both He & Mildred. Hard to believe that it is nearing the end of November, with Turkey Day, but a memory. I think Erie & surrounding area are certainly the winners for supplying free Thanksgiving Dinners, in the Country. Churches, Salvation Army, City Mission, numerous Public Restaurants offered them over a three day period, so that one could get three free meals just by watching the schedule. How about that, and the same will be during the Christmas Season, 2002 is a short month away & Betty & I are marveling at the exceptionally warm fall that has remained here in Erie. Temps in the upper 60's with very little rain. The leaves have all fallen & are racked. Strange to see Snap Dragons, Pinks, Geraniums, Mums & a Pink Azalea with two flowers and many remaining buds. Wouldn't it be something if the Winter Season stayed the same, then the snow birds could have stayed home!!! Our backyard Wild Turkeys are back now that Thanksgiving is over. Deer Season begins December 3rd with an over abundance of Buck & Doe available. Unfortunatly we are in a drought declared area, with Lake Erie at it's lowest level in many years. Hammermill/IP is shutting dowm, beginning in November & ending in May, 2002. So will end a 120 year old business legacy to Erie established by the Behrend Family. Well, could probably continued, but should leave something for the next message. Say well and the Lord's Blessings be with you all. Dick & Betty Jell

11/25/2001There has been a recent change in the new park located at the intersections of Priestly Avenue, Iroquois Avenue & Morse Street. The LP Historical Society has placed the old Elementary School Bell there. A beautiful Blue Spruce was recently planted to the rear of this bell, with an appropriate name plate, in Memory of Geri Cunningham Kline. Classmates & Friends from several LP Graduating Classes thought this would be appropriate. I have driven by it several times & it is impressive to see this recent addition. This might be a start for other memorials to Lawrence Park Graduates to be located there too. Who know. I guess Lawrence Park already has a Memorial Wall where appropriate engraved bricks may be added over the years. The old Lawrence Park shop building of our early school experiences, up to now part of Erie County Library System, has been torn down and will be rebuilt as a modern Erie County East Side location. Bye for now.

Hi-
It's that time of the year again. The holiday season. The time that brings back many memories. Our class is spread over the entire United States, but for the most part, we stay in touch, and by doing that have many fond memories of our school years. It is a treasure that no-one can take from us, and it has been said to many of us from various Lawrence Park Alumni, that they have never seen a class remain so close. Our friendships will never be broken.
So, enjoy the holiday season of the present, but remember the holiday season of the past, in good old Lawrence Park.
And by the way,I hope to see some of you visiting our old homestead during the summer. It is always fun to get together.
Peggie

12/30/2001HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone reading this message.
Let us once again thank Gus for sharing his talents with us so we can enjoy this wonderful
class website. Hopefully there will be more of
our classmates to get computers and keep in contact in 2002. We went to a party at Don Baron
and Betty's home in Leesburg, Florida a few nights
ago. He does not have a computer, so asked me to convey his best wishes to everyone. I hope he will continue to come to our dinners and other get
togethers our class will have. As we look forward
to 2002, let us reflect on the passing of our
friends and classmates. Also the tragedy in New
York City, where so many Americans, lost their
lives. Those we didn't know or have never met.
Let us pray that no other tragedies ever happen.

01/07/2002A tribute to my twin Brother Bob, who is no longer with me to celebrate our Birthdays together on January 8th, 2002. We had 71 beautiful & fullfilling years together, for which I will be eternally thankful & greatful for that time span. We were blessed with being identical twins and you will always be in my heart. The memories of our time together will last a lifetime. Rest In Peace.
